font size and background

Using Platform PRO: http://www.cannonlacrosse.com/ I would like to make the font sizes on my navigation bar a little larger. I downloaded firebug but I just can't figure out what to do with it. I also want to add color to the margins while still having the background image behind my center content. I tried the different versions of the layout and can get the color added but then my image disappears. Not a coder, don't know CSS so please make any response dummied down. Thanks! Rebecca

I found a thread that covered the font size so was able to fix that except for left sidebar.
