Featured image is really small

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am using post links to plugin to pull posts of certain categories to a specific page based upon the category of the post. This works pretty well with the exception that the thumbnail image next to the Post Title is very small...I am not sure why this is happening. I have increased the size of the thumnail in the settings area but this seems to have no effect. Has any one run into this or can anyone suggest a solution?

anytime you change thumbnail sizes that are based off a pre-defined setting you usually have to regenerate the thumbs to see the change. Plugin: Regenerate Thumbs

Thanks Adam, may I ask you another question? I am pretty new to this stuff so your patience is appreciated...As I said before, I am trying to set up a page, which pulls posts from a particular category to populate the main body of the page. Mainly I am doing this to keep the page compact and users can click on post thumbnail to read more...etc...I realize that I could do this using boxes or banners but that seems a bit redundant to me as I still need the post or another page with that info and then I have the same info in 2 different places... I am trying to creata staff directory of sorts, that pulls from the staff category to populate that page...the actual staff bios are posts in the appropriate category. Also as I said I am using a plugin...and it seems to override some aspects of your theme...such as once i point the page to a category, I can no longer add text to the content part of the page and the features will only pull from the default category...the plugin is pretty simple but I am wondering if there would be a better way to do this with platform pro? I have read a bunch of things about modifying the php file...but this is still a bit out of my reach...any ideas??? Patrick...

What plugin are you currently using that's overriding some aspects of the theme (what does it do exactly)?

Hi Catrina, thanks...I was using Page Links To...what it is supposed to do is is populate the page with post excerpts and featured picture based upon the category of the post. Go here for an example on another site i have set up... http://whatcomfolkschool.org/categories/in-gratitude It works ok with the exception that now I cannot add any text to the content area of the page...bummer... How ever I have set up another site for the company i work for...and was hoping to create several different pages that pull their main content from many different posts of the same category...so the page for our staff for example would be created by puling all the individual posts categorised as office staff to the page named office staff...the text for all the different staff makes for a crazy long page, i just want a picture with a small exerpt and a more link to go to that staff's post...am I approaching this wrong...this seems much more efficient that creating a box or banner for each item, then recreating it all over again in a post...unfortunately I am doing all this without any code knowledge so I tend to rely on plugins...any help would be appreciated... patrick...

I'm not sure I follow. WP has built-in category pages that have posts of individual categories. Aren't you just describing the "office staff" category page?

Hi Tim, thanks for responding...I am pretty new at WP and no coding experience...I don't know what a category page is...I may be describing what you suggest...as I said before what I am after is a page that will be populated by posts and featured images of said posts automatically by the category assigned to the post...what I am having trouble with is the short-code??? that needs to go in content area of the page...I am currently using banners, but that seems like a redundant task and just give my duplicate date...can you direct me to documentation on using category pages??? Thanks again for taking an interest...pretty ovewhelming on my end... patrick...

There's no coding involved. When you create a category, WP makes the category page for you. It's a page that shows posts from that category.

Hi Tim, thanks...this may seem a bit rudimentary, but can you direct me to how to actually set up a page that uses post categories???

In Appearance -> Menus, you have the option to add pages to the menu, and also categories. Just add a category and it will create a navigation item that links to your category page. Once there you can view the url and see how it works, depending on what you have set for permalinks, for example on my site the category page is at http://mysite.com/category/staff because i have /%postname%/ set for permalinks. You don't need to actually create the page, it is automatically created when you make a new category.

Hi Jimmy, thank you that is very helpful and seems to work pretty well. One more question...well actually 2...I have a feature at the top of my default page and when I view the new catagory page the feature no longer works...and I don't seem to have the option of editing this category page so I am not sure how to change the category the feature is drawing from http://a1builders.ws/categories/office-staff/ so it is blank...how do I edit this page? Also does the category page generated use the default page for its template... Thanks again for your help and clarity of direction

You'll need some in-depth customization to customize the category page since category pages, by default, have no appearance-editing settings.
Also does the category page generated use the default page for its template...
Yes, the category page generated uses the posts page for its template.
