Changing the header color/art

I am new to platform pro and have notices that my most common problem is that it would be nice to be able to freely change the color and look of the header. I would either like a nice solid color across the top of the page with the title of the site inside of it, or I would like to be able to insert a custom jpg just on top of the nav bar. What would be the best way to do this?

On my site I put this extra code in the CSS-settings body #page{background:url(../images/bgrozegestr.jpg) repeat;}
