Jenny 33 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 I've made two blogs with Platform Pro so far, but I've yet to make the switch with my original blog because I'm scared! LoL On my blog Freebie Spot, I host product giveaways for sponsors which display as "node based" with a thumbnail-type image and the post title below it. I have it set so only "current giveaway" category items show up automatically as featured items. Below the featured items are the rest of the blog posts. How can I do this same thing using Platform Pro? I really want to make the switch but I can't figure out how to make it work. Thanks for any help you can provide! ♥ Jenny :: Web designer at Simple Mama (follow me at @simplemamacom) Check out Share Me, a social sharing add-on for DMS that is super simple to set up. ricardo 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 Hi Jenny, Can you please explain what you mean by "node based"? Thanks! Ricardo
Jenny 33 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 I assumed it was a default wordpress post type, but maybe not? If you visit my site (Freebie Spot) you'll see the featured giveaways listed. Those are "node based". (I can choose to have post text listed also but I set the character count to 0.) ♥ Jenny :: Web designer at Simple Mama (follow me at @simplemamacom) Check out Share Me, a social sharing add-on for DMS that is super simple to set up. ricardo 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 No, not really =) I've just found that they are a part of your theme, Arras. Going back to your original question: can you do that with PP? I don't know all the details of how that works on Arras but you can do something similar using a custom query and styling it to match the current look. catrina 103 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 What does the character count have to do with how the featured posts/current giveaway items are displayed? Please read the docs before posting. Jenny 33 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 Catrina, it just adds an excerpt below the title. Ricardo, can you provide any further information? And is this something that can be added to a child theme (if so, which page(s))? The carousel would kindof work except I don't want the arrows, I don't want it to scroll, and would like everything shown at once (preferably in more than one row). I really want to make the switch but I need some way to feature my giveaways. ♥ Jenny :: Web designer at Simple Mama (follow me at @simplemamacom) Check out Share Me, a social sharing add-on for DMS that is super simple to set up. catrina 103 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 Perhaps you can try using boxes (they're seen below the feature slider here: http://www.pagelines.com/demos/platformpro/). They can be displayed in columns and rows. Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to. Jenny 33 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 Yeah that would work. I've used boxes on my other 2 blogs but only ever messed with 3 at once. Is there a way to autopopulate the boxes with a certain category, for example? The image could pull from the featured image, title from the post title, etc. Hopefully it's possible because that could work! ♥ Jenny :: Web designer at Simple Mama (follow me at @simplemamacom) Check out Share Me, a social sharing add-on for DMS that is super simple to set up. catrina 103 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 Unfortunately, the boxes are only generated if you create each one. They can't be populated with a certain category. Please read the docs before posting. ricardo 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 Jenny, You can insert it in any location via a hook but you could also modify the blog or magazine template in the template.postloop.php file to do something like that. Here's a page from the WP Codex for you to have an idea about custom queries: http://codex.wordpress.org/Custom_Queries Ricardo
Jenny 33 Report post Posted May 23, 2011 Thank you both. I'll see if I can dig in to the code sometime and maybe copy it over from the other theme. Thanks again. ♥ Jenny :: Web designer at Simple Mama (follow me at @simplemamacom) Check out Share Me, a social sharing add-on for DMS that is super simple to set up.
