msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 I was attempting to change out the background image of one of my features - feature slider. The image doesn't upload and instead i am seeing This: -1 in the viewer where the preview image generally displays. I have had no problems uploading images for the feature b/g in the past - I have checked bandwidth and disk space - I have plenty - I have checked media permissions in settings - image conforms... i have deactivated every plugin that was installed since the last successful feature background upload. Please help - the feature slider is an important aspect of my site - and I need to be able to change out the background images frequently. (of course!) Thanks. oh and I have also tried uploading from two different computers - i get the same error message - a -1 displays in the viewer instead of an image. I also tried to upload to "add a new feature" - so it's not just about changing the background of an image that is already there - i can't upload even if i try to add a new feature. catrina 103 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 You are using PlatformPro, yes? And when you look at the feature slider on your site, the images don't show there either? msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 Hi Catrina - oh sorry, yes. I am using Platform Pro Base. no i didn't look at the feature slider on the site - because i didn't want to save the page with the -1 displaying in the viewer. I am covering the Mississippi River flood at that blog - Louisiana is about to submerge in case you're reading the news - anyway, I have a ton of traffic onsite. Didn't want to lose the image that's already there. Do you want to me give it a whirl. If you're standing by I will go try it.
msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 oh. tell you what - i will go test it with a new feature - i'll upload and then save the page and see if there is not an image displaying in the feature slider. thanks for the help. really appreciate it.
msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 ok. this is very weird - i can get a successful feature b/g upload to the clone - the test blog - but i still can't upload to the working blog. Plugins are exactly the same at the test blog and at the working blog.

msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 nope i am getting a blank screen where the image should be. I can upload a feature media image successfully - just not a feature background image. this is very weird.
catrina 103 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 A similar problem is occurring here, too: http://www.pagelines.com/forum/topic/9410 That problem and yours might be the same, but I'm not sure what's causing it. Did you upgrade recently? Which version do you have? Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to. msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 i deactivated everything non-essential - deactivated everything that's been there since the original install. i am running multi-site so i would have to deactivate sitewide activated plugins- i have something like 20 blogs - so i would be hours reconfiguring all those plugins. I have got the same plugins at every blog - it's just that alot of these have oath settings to configure - so the plugins are the same but the information is very different. i just saw where someone else in the forum wrote in about the same problem - Jordan Dowdall 0 says he can't edit the b/g image in the feature - essentially the same issue i am having
msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 correction - i have deactivated everything except essential plugins that have been there since the original install.
msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 1.3.1 - no recent upgrade. was able to successfully upload just yesterday. the issue just started today.
Simon 248 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 Are you able to upload the image using the wordpress media manager? Platform uses the same api for images.
msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 that was a very good question to ask Simon. Nope. can't upload an image to the media manager either. It's giving me a ".jpg has failed to upload due to an error".

msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 sounds like an API issue.
Simon 248 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 Either there is a problem with the jpg itself, or you have a problem with the upload directory, permissions etc.
msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 tried multiple images of various sizes - even small graphics - and i checked my media permissions - media permissions are fine. i tried to re upload the same image that is already there
msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 i have had no problems uploading very large graphics to small gifs until today. I was uploading fine at 4:00 am this morning. I just tried to upload the image that is already there! i do extensive work with images - I am a photo agent and editor by trade- so i have worked extensively with image uploads. Simon 248 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 Just saying Margaret, if the WordPress Media uploader fails so will the Platform one, they use the same backend. Its either WordPress at fault or something has changed on your server.
msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 sorry to be pesty Simon. i know it's gotta tough with all of us hollering for help. anyway, it's been a rough day in Louisiana. The whole region is about to flood.ok so - we're in accord - it's either WP at fault or something changed on my server - but there are two of us having the same issue - hmmm...wonder if Jordan is at hostgator. that's where i am. could it be a hostgator issue? and if something has changed on my server what might that be? I did extend my bandwidth right before i went to upload but for the whole site - the whole domain. and the issue seems to be at this one blog - upload went fine on the template blog. come to mention it though - i should go and test out each blog. msaizan+ 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2011 but i am ruling out that it's an issue with the jpg. the images i am working with are pro level - the photog set the compressions correctly. he's ace.
