Multiple Content Areas - Platform Pro

Hi All Wondering if someone might be able to point me in the direction of how to create Multiple Columns on a page. I came accross this tutorial for another theme, but haven't had any luck in implementing yet (I guess due to my lack of coding skills). http://www.billerickson.net/wordpress-thesis-multiple-content-areas/ Would appreciate some guidance.
