WHP3 Include Initial Posts and Comments Page in Nav Menu

Recommended Posts

phollist

When anyone opens our website, the first thing they see is a page of posts with "Comments" and "Leave A Response" after each post. The default sidebar is on the right. Above this page is the navigation menu displayed from left to right with a tab for "Home" and for the other pages. This opening page does not have a navigation tab and I can not find a way to open and edit it. I would like this page to be opened by a navigation tab, not just appear when someone selects our website. In addition, I would like the "Home" page to be the one opened when the website is selected. As usual, I will be most appreciative of any guidance or instructions anyone can give me.

Is this opening page you're referring to the main page? Also, do you mean that you want the navigation to include the "Home" page link? It'd be helpful if you can provide a link to your site.

I would like the page that first appears to be my "Blog" page
Sorry, but to clarify: do you mean that you want the "Blog" page to appear as the first menu item in the navigation menu?

I am not doing a very good job of explaining what is happening or what I would like to have happen. Sorry! I would like the user to see the "Home" page with its five feature pictures and three feature boxes when she or he enters the website. I would like the page with two posts and a sidebar that initially appears to be the "Blog" page and seen only when the user clicks on the "Blog" tab in the navigation menu. I hope this explanation helps.

Hmm isn't this already the case? When I go to the root link @ http://032b510.netsolhost.com/, I see the feature+box page you describe.

So I think your problem is that clicking "Blog" in the nav takes you to the wrong page? i.e. clicking the "Blog" link takes you to page_id=50, but you want it to go to page_id=2 Are you using a custom menu in Appearance > Menus? If so, make sure all the links are pointing to the right place. If not, you can make a custom menu with the links you want, and then set it as your Primary Navigation menu in the dropdown on that page. You can also go to Settings > Reading and check your "Front Page displays" setting, but if I understand your description correctly, you shouldn't have to mess with this setting.

Thank your for your diagnosis and helpful comments. You took me at least half way to the solution and increased my understanding as well. You said: "So I think your problem is that clicking "Blog" in the nav takes you to the wrong page? i.e. clicking the "Blog" link takes you to page_id=50, but you want it to go to page_id=2" Yes, you're right. I changed the "Blog" link so that it points to http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2 as it should and works as I want it to. Half of my problem is solved. You said: "Are you using a custom menu in Appearance > Menus? If so, make sure all the links are pointing to the right place. If not, you can make a custom menu with the links you want, and then set it as your Primary Navigation menu in the dropdown on that page." No, I was not using a custom menu. I created a custom menu, set it as my Primary Navigation menu, and found that the website still opened to http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2 instead of http://032b510.netsolhost.com/ as I want. I deleted the custom menu. You said: "You can also go to Settings > Reading and check your "Front Page displays" setting, but if I understand your description correctly, you shouldn't have to mess with this setting." Yes, I did go to Settings > Reading and found that "Front page displays a static page" and "Front Page" is set to "Home" So the other half of my problem still remains. The website opens to the "Blog" page (http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2). It does not open as I want to the "Home" page (http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2). I deeply appreciate your assistance and hope you will be able to guide me to the rest of the solution.

I made a mistake in the second to the last paragraph in my last reply. It should read: So the other half of my problem still remains. The website opens to the "Blog" page (http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2'>http://032b510.netsolhost.com/?page_id=2). It does not open as I want to the "Home" page (http://032b510.netsolhost.com/). Please excuse my error.
