Display child page links in content area of parent

I am ecstatic about the features I have seen in PageLines' PlatformPro template since having purchased it only days ago. Great stuff! That said, before I start writing code is there an easy way to have a PAGE list its child pages (title, thumb, 1st 256 chars of content, etc) or POST content as part of the page content? I have two scenarios: one is a product store where I want to show child products of a category, and the second is for a news site that has a category page (e.g. "Politics") and then child posts based on the category. I saw the Custom Sections video and am really impressed (I think there is a demo file referenced in the vid that is missing from version 1.3.5? that I just downloaded this past week) but do I need to go there for this type of navigation capability? Thanks in advance, AllynWA

This sounds doable either with plugin shortcodes, custom sections, or some mix. Some of the design/dev experts around here can probably give you some more detailed guidance, but you might start by checking out some plugins.. e.g. List Category Posts.

You might be looking in the platformpro folders. The section files in the video are in the platformbase/sections folder (section.globalnav.php was just copied from section.pullquote.php). The base theme will be where you do your customizations so that your work isn't overridden on core updates.

Thank you, Tim, for the quick response. Regarding the 'List category posts' suggestion, that suggestion does work for POSTS although since I am working with Cart66 as the store, it wants the product pages to be PAGE, not POST. With that in mind, do you think that I should move ahead developing a new "Child Page Nav Section" using the aforementioned video as a starting point? If so, could you please point me to the APIs or PageLine docs that would best help me get there. For example, how do I create the options in the Admin to show or not show child pages on a particular page (in the PageLines Section Control). The video is good to a certain level of detail, but... ;-) Thanks again! Thanks again, Fred

One more thing...I did a search in the /platformpro/section folder, and there is no 'section.pullquote.php'. There is a 'section.callout.php', is that the same thing?

section.pullquote.php is inside of the PlatformBase theme which you should be using to child theme/customize things.

Sorry to sound like a broken record (or worse yet an idiot :0), I can't find any PlatformBase theme. I have /themes/platformpro, and no other. In /themes/platformpro I have /sections, but no 'section.callout.php'. My first experience with PPro is v1.3.5 so if this was an artifact of a previous version that would explain, however the demo sample file doesn't exist in my installation. (?!)

Oh, you can pick up platformbase in your launchpad account. It's a child theme of the core pro theme and installs/activates just as any other theme. http://www.pagelines.com/launchpad/member.php Using a child theme lets you make customizations without having them wiped out on core updates (you just update ppro and always keep base the same).

Hi again...I just downloaded the 1.4.0 version of PageLines PlatformPro and copied it over my previous 1.3.5 installation (there wasn't an "Upgrade" option in the Dashboard). How do I call out for child pages of a page to be displayed? I have a Section Front in a site that wants to list the Child Articles (and their thumbnails) on the Section Front. As you can see from this thread, it sounded like that was being put (back?) into 1.4. (see https://pagelines.fogbugz.com/default.asp?398_a5red94ipb65or70) What's the current status please? Thanks in advance.
