To get rid of that extra space, add this CSS code to your custom CSS area or the base.css file in the child theme:

#banners {margin-top: -25px;}
	#maincontent {margin-top: -60px;}

You don't have to change any files. Just copy and paste that code into the CSS Rules box (in Settings > Custom Code).
