News Section Ticket

I have been trying to add a new ticker plugin to Pagelines and place the ticker on the feature page just below the logo section. In my search of where to drop the bit of code to do this, I came across a php file for a section which I can find no settings for. news.section.php The text suggested there was a need to install news-ticker plugin which I did but still no joy in finding a way to embed in the right place on the site. Please advise, many thanks.

The news ticker section was scrapped bc none of the plugins worked that great. If you find a good one, though it could more than likely be placed using a hook instead of creating a whole new section,.

Hi,

I have cobbled together a nice ticker section, at present it does not feed from the site xml, but it works just fine with manually entered data.

I am not a coder so it could be improved, for example I do not know how to make the url for the script none hard coded etc, but I'm sure somebody can figure that out.

You can grab it from my site here http://www.solosails.com/wp-content/themes/pagelines-child/sections/

If anyone can get it to run from the site xml or improve it in any other way, please post here for me and others .

Thanks.

Hi James,

Thanks, if anyone can get it to read from the XML that would be great. I have found another ticker java script that does that, but the display is not as nice as this one.

One thing to be noted for any users of this section is that you will need to change a few lines in the section.php where it points to the content java script using www.solosails......

If anyone can tell me how to get this so that it uses relative links instead, that would be great. Cheers.

Hi,

Why not apply to our developers community, where you can get assistance with your product creation ?

http://developer.pagelines.com/apply/

You can then add it to the PageLines store.

Please search our forums, before posting!

Hi Danny,

Thanks, I have applied. I dont think I will have much to offer as my programming knowledge is pretty poor, but if it helps get this ticker section working for me and everyone else, that's great.

Thanks for the framework, Andrew

An update for anyone interested in this ticker section,

We have finally got the java based section parsing xml data from the rss feed.

This is a very nice thing as you can clone the section, and tailor it to specific rss feed for different parts of the website.

You can grab the section here without restrictions...

Thank you for the update solosails :)

The answer to many issues can be found by searching in the forum before posting as someone else  may very well have had the same problem before you have.  Also, reading the documentation can help you gain a good understanding of how everything works.
