jimnyc62 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2011 Hi everyone, Just installed PlatformPro a couple of days ago and still trying to get the feel of everything this baby can do. On my "About" page I'm trying to put a box of text with a border, maybe a slightly smaller font, within the regular content of the page. If you click on the link (http://jimlochner.com/about/) you'll see what I've done with the Editor Extender plugin using tables. It's okay, but I'd like to have the box smaller without all that grey at the bottom because that's the bottom of the table row. I've tried using Boxes, but I'm not sure I get how they work yet, and I'm not sure that's the best use of them since this is just text. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim P.S. What's that out-of-place grey box above the footer and how can I easily get rid of it?
timlinson 3 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 Looks like your whole content area is just 1 table. Tables aren't really recommended to be used for layout purposes like this. If this is the layout you're after, one thing you could do is put the "ABOUT ... Thank you for visiting" part in the page content, and then put the "5 reasons to hire" in a sidebar text widget on the right.
jimnyc62 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2011 Tim, that makes sense. But I'm obviously not doing it properly. I have "Hide Sidebars When Empty (no widgets)" checked in the Sidebar Options. I created a custom page with the content and universal sidebar. I put the "5 reasons" text in a text widget in the universal sidebar. Then I went back and clicked Custom Page on the ABOUT page. It's not coming up and I'm sure I'm doing this with so many extra unnecessary steps and that it's something incredibly simple. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim
catrina 103 Report post Posted April 10, 2011 Perhaps you can uncheck "Hide Sidebars When Empty (no widgets)" first and then see if the text widget appears. If the sidebar widget or tables generated using this plugin aren't working out for you, it's possible to create a basic table using HTML. That way, the "5 reasons" text can be aligned in a box the way you want. Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to. jimnyc62 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2011 Hi Catrina, Yeah, I tried all those as well. The table was the first thing I tried. But since my left-hand text was longer, it made the "5 reasons" side equally as long. And since I wanted a border and grey background to that side, it was looking funky. Somehow I'll figure this out. But it is frustrating. Thanks anyway. Jim
timlinson 3 Report post Posted April 12, 2011 Jim, if you find it easier to just define the layout within the post itself, you can but I'd just steer away from tables. I'd suggest reading up on divs a little bit. Here's a quick div example you can paste in a post just to see what's going on visually: ` about me line 1 about me line 2 reason line 1 `
arretx 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2011 Jim, boxes are really easy to utilize once you grasp the concept. On a given page, boxes as a whole are either on, or off, depending on your selection in the right-hand column in the page editor. When you turn that check box off, the boxes that are shown on the page are determined by the box settings at the bottom of the page editor. If you don't set any specific settings for boxes, all of them are displayed. If you choose a box set (a few boxes with the same box category) then only those boxes will be shown. The same goes for features.
