_jack+ 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2011 Hi All, I have a bit of a problem. Some people are telling me that 2 of my slides are missing and just showing black on my home page feature slider. I have everything set up for each slide in exactly the same way... so dont understand why this issue is just with 2. I built the site through a mac and tested in firefox, crome and opera and it all works perfectly... so im thinking this is possibly and older IE issue... Anybody experienced this or know whats wrong? The slides with the problem are the 'time to get up close' and 'traditional bikes'. Many thanks, Jack www.tallyhocycletours.com
cmunns 16 Report post Posted April 7, 2011 Well the site validates just fine so it's peculiar. There were issues with this sort of thing before but in earlier versions and it wasn't just an IE problem so maybe those people need to clear their cache?
compartmentlife 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 I am having this same issue. My feature was working PERFECTLY for months and nothing has changed, but all of a sudden the image are black in Firefox and IE. They show up Safari, but who uses that... Help! http://www.compartmentlife.com
_jack+ 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2011 Hi Adam, the site is new... been online for a week or so. So i dont see how cached earlier versions would be an issue. I've been told by those seeing black slides that they are running either IE 7 or 8. I dont understand enough about how these browsers differ to be able to make any custom changes. Any advice? whatdadizzle 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2011 Jack, I had a simular problem. What I did to solve my issue was that I went through each of my features and checked every little detail. What I found was that I had this code wrong in the slide titles <small>name</small> I was doing this <small>name<small/> Once I corrected that issue, my slides work fine. Just sharing what happened to my feature slider.
_jack+ 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2011 Thanks Tirrell, just checked and all my smalls seem to be ok though. So im still unsure whats going on...
cmunns 16 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 Jack. I don't see anything out of the ordinary either but in IE its the same two slides that are blank everytime. Anyway for you to copy a "valid" slide and repopulate it that way? IE is very picky about markup and can go awry even when validation is okay. "traditional bicycles" and "time to get up close" are the two slides that show black for me.
_jack+ 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 Hi Adam, ok i've recreated those two slides - I would really appreciate it if you could check back and see if its working properly now. I realised as well that I did something after creating the slides that may somehow have caused a problem (although i have no idea how...). I used Post Types Order plugin by NSP Code to re-order the feature slides... If the issue is still persisting now... then this could be the culprit!
cmunns 16 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 It's still not working. Do you have a way of checking on IE? When you remove the 2-3 slides (the black ones) do all the others still show up? If so then your problem has to be with the slides and not some sort of script error/conflict.
_jack+ 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 Ok, problem solved (i hope)! I came across this http://allwebco-templates.com/support/S_images_not_updating.htm and went back to my .jpg files for the 2 bad slides and resaved them for web, again as .jpg - just phoned a friend with IE PC and apparently the slides are showing now. I dont really get the inner workings but it seems that although the file extension is the same, IE didnt like how the image was saved the first time...
