mikeclouse 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2011 layout question, i want to use 3-4 boxes on my main page that when clicked will take you to a traditional blog type layout page with multiple posts displayed by date (like a blog within a blog). If that makes sense? the boxes on main page would just give category description with icon. if i link boxes to a regular page i cant do multiple posts like a traditional blog page. i hope im making sense, ask any questions if you need me to clarify. lastly, i really do appreciate your support forum...you guys really work hard to make this all work. thank you. mike. timlinson 3 Report post Posted April 7, 2011 Hey Mike, you could categorize your posts, and then use a plugin like List Category Posts to put links to categories inside your boxes. Hopefully I understood correctly and that's what you're after.
mikeclouse 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2011 Thanks Tim, What I really want to do is have 3-4 separate topics on my site (maybe...nutrition, sports, relationships, business)and be able to have individual blog pages for each one. so if someone clicks "sports" they can see the entire string of posts on that topic alone. I see some people have a "blog" page listed on their navigation bar candystitch.com (example) that links to their blog, can I just set up several of these type pages within my site? Thank You! Mike. Kate 3 Report post Posted April 7, 2011 Hey Mike, What Tim suggested with categories can do exactly that. In fact, you can include categories in the main nav, just as if it were any other page. For instance, here's a link to all of the posts with the "Uncategorized" category: http://www.pagelines.com/demos/platformpro/category/uncategorized and then one for the "Simple" category: http://www.pagelines.com/demos/platformpro/category/simple Are you familiar with setting them up? mikeclouse 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 I dont understand where to find or place the "catlist" code?
timlinson 3 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 If all you want to do is make menu links instead of boxes, you shouldn't even need a plugin. The shortcodes you get from the plugin let you put stuff in content areas. For menu links, just create a custom menu in Appearance > Menus and have them link to the cat pages.. e.g. http://slfjsd.com/?cat=
mikeclouse 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 sorry for so many lame questions... Kate posted this link http://www.pagelines.com/demos/platformpro/category/uncategorized and this is exectly what I want to do, and I don't think it uses a plug-in? just my platform pro site..? how do I create that look with excerpts and feature image as shown? Thanks so much!!
ricardo 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 Hi Mike! Regarding CandyStitch.com (I'm the designer/developer), the Blog page is simply an empty page with the default template. The reason why it displays the blog is because I've chose it as the posts page in the Options > Reading settings. Ricardo
mikeclouse 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 Hi Ricardo, first of all, love the candystitch site, you did a great job! on comment...that makes sense, tell me this, is it possible to have multiple blog/post pages on my site? separate post pages for multiple authors and topics? thank you. mike
ricardo 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2011 Thanks Mike =) Unless you are talking about the lack of one or more full width posts (like "Welcome to CandyStitch" here: http://candystitch.com/en/blog/ ) I don't see the difference between what you want and the default wordpress category and author archives (like Kate explained). You just need to add those links to the menu. Going back to your original post, what you describe looks what I did on the candy products' page: http://candystitch.com/en/candy/ The only difference is that I'm linking to anchors on the page and not to different pages. Here's how you do it: - You create a page (lets call it Test) with the template you want (Feature Page for example); - Go to PlatformPro > Settings > Template Setup and make sure that the Pagelines Boxes section is in your Feature Page template area; - Add a new Box (name it Mike for example) and in the Box Setup Options add the link to your author archives in Box Link text field (should be something like "/author/mike/" without the quotes); If you visit the Test page, you'll see your box there linking to your author archive. Taking this up a notch or two, you can create an authors box set and a topics box set where you classify your boxes accordingly. You then create an author page and a topic page where you have the respective box set (edit page > Pageline Meta settings > Boxes Section > Select Box to show). Finally, you can add these 2 pages to the menu. Ricardo
kamibayasi 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2011 Hello Ricardo I read your answer and was wondering if you could describe this part of your answer for me... Unless you are talking about the lack of one or more full width posts (like "Welcome to CandyStitch" here: http://candystitch.com/en/blog/ ) I am trying to exactly what you are doing in the link, which is to have one post go full width, and others following to have two columns. If possible I want the full width post to be the sticky post. I played around with "full width posts" section of "Blogs and posts" tab, but could not get any results. I thank you greatly for taking your time.
