Spicing up the post excerpt boxes

I have set the main page to magazine style with one full post excerpt on top.. Pretty cool feature, PlatformPro is simply amazing! It just looks a little plain and was wondering if there is a way to spice them up a little.. Create borders or give them a little color and make sections or something? Any ideas?
