Customise Platform Pro site using Photoshop slices?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this question. I'm new to web design (coming from a print layout background) but have successfully designed a number of sites using Platform Pro. I know only the very basic CSS and have no coding experience at all. An existing client wants me to design a website for him but has a PSD file that he wants slicing and then placing into the site. I've no idea if this is even possible in Platform Pro, let alone how to go about doing it. Before I commit to doing this work I'd appreciate a bit of advice on the following: - is it possible to create a Platform Pro-based site and customise the look completely using sliced Photoshop images. - if so, how would I go about doing it? - how much coding might be involved - are there any hints / tips / advice that would be good for me to be aware of. I know I don't want to design my own theme - PP is brilliant - but I would like to be able to customise it with bespoke artwork if possible. I hope that made sense and I look forward to hearing from someone soon, Cheers and thanks for such an awesome product! Stu

Hi Stu, It really depends on what the layout is of the PSD, and what features they're looking for. It is possible to slice a PSD and turn it into a theme, but I can't speak for the particular PSD you're talking about.

Hi Kate, Thanks. I've been investigating turning it into a theme but the level of coding is just beyond me. I was hoping (naively, it appears) to be able to slice the PSD and simply import the various slices directly into the Platform Pro Theme and not have to know any (or much) code to be able to do it. The more I look at it, the more I realise this is probably beyond me at this stage. Thanks for a swift response. Stu

Stu, Unfortunately it's not as easy as just importing the various images into PlatformPro. You may want to consider contacting someone from the Pros page to inquire about pricing for some customization.

Hi there, I too am interested in learning the steps it would take to customize a theme to make it work the way I need it to work. I come from a Print background but have been hacking premium Wordpress theme CSS for awhile now with much success but never really designed a theme from scratch. Is there advice on an "express" or even any suggested route I could take to learning how to do that with Pagelines? I've been researching this for awhile now and still no clear answers or guidance and I'm getting frustrated with not being able really design the look and feel of my site. Pagelines seems to be great for moving sections around but I don't want a generic looking site because modifying a header and adding some side graphics is not the only thing I want to do. I'd love to be able to style the navigation bar, background images behind sections, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you, Tan
