winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Thanks to everyone for your help so far. Now, my new challenge is: My front/landing "News & Features" page works like a charm in 3 columns (http://winesyndicate.ca/). Now I'd like a second blog on my "Sustainability" page where the layout would stay in 2 columns (http://winesyndicate.ca/sustainability/). I'd like my "sustainability" posts to only appear on that page. How do I make that happen?
Sourena 2 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 You can turn your WordPress website into a "multisite". Instructions here: http://wordpress.tv/2010/07/07/activating-wordpress-3-multisite/ alefba.usWeb Development & Design for Right-to-Left languages
bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 See other options here as well: http://www.pagelines.com/forum/topic.php?id=6215 Thanks, Bryan
winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Thank you Sourena and Bryan. Bryan, by using the "sustainability" category as a menu item, my "sustainability" posts still appear under the "news and features" page as well. Also, how can I change the layout of that category page. Man, I don't know if I make sense, my brain is overheating.
bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 I think in this case Multi-Site is the best option. Thanks, Bryan
winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Ok, so I've set-up WP for Multi-Site. My first site http://winesyndicate.ca shows my posts on the front page as it should. My second site, http://winesyndicate.ca/sustainability/, for some reason, instead keeps pointing to a post that that I've trashed. Help.
cmunns 16 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Clear it from your trash and see what happens? Also, there may be confusion if you have a category named the same as your sub-directory. Try changing the permalinks.
winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 Thanks Adam. I've fixed almost everything. It now appears as it should. The only glitch is the address that appears in the address bar... it should read http://winesyndicate.ca/sustainability but instead it still reads http://winesyndicate.ca/sustainability/2011/03/15/sustainability-initiatives-from-our-vintners/. I've deleted that post and emptied the trash. Sustainability is no longer a post category either. I don't know where to change the permalink for that page since its the landing page. Any idea? bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 Your sub-sites or sub-blogs will have their own settings. You'll need to update the permalink structure again for the new site. Thanks, Bryan
winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 If I go to Setting>Permalinks and change it to let's say, Date & Name, then I end up on a 404 page. The site will only goto the right landing page if I select the Default option in Permalinks. But even then I still get te http://winesyndicate.ca/sustainability/2011/03/15/sustainability-initiatives-from-our-vintners/ in the address bar. Where is it getting that address. As I said earlier that post has been deleted a long time ago.
winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 I deleted the site and started all over. Now it still goes to the the first post automatically instead on the page with excerpts. Heeeeelp!
bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 Try this as the custom permalink: `/%postname%/` Thanks, Bryan
winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 Hi Bryan, if I use that as custom permalinks it points me to 404. This is getting very irritating... I'm sure that it's just a simple setting but I just can't wrap my head around it and find out what the solution is. Weird. Why doesn't it just give me a page with the excerpts as the landing page? I should be landing on http://winesyndicate.ca/sustainability/ and see excerpts there. No?
bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 So you know permalinks and multisite are completely non-theme related issues. But, I'd be happy to continue helping you with this. Please check Settings > Reading. Last resort you may have to go into the database and manually change the redirect / url. Thanks, Bryan
winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 Thanks Bryan. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help and everyone else's as a matter of fact. Would you mind taking a quick look at my settings? Maybe it's just a very simple thing that I'm just not seeing.
cmunns 16 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 Also, Eric did you try posting at the WP multi-site forums? They may have more issues like this and could help further...
winemonkey 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2011 My hosting server screwed-up when it was time to change URL for the site and I basically have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch. It's going to be a long night. I just wanted to take a minute to thank you guys for your help on all my WP issues. Look me up if you ever come to Vancouver. (My contact details should be up on the website once I get the friggin' thing running.) Cheers. -E
