djhix 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2011 Hi. I've searched and found similar topics, but none seem to have solved my issue. I'm using platform pro and I simply want the integrated social icons that are currently in my header, to appear in my footer instead. I'm aware of the pixel placement options that are available in the theme settings, but obviously this wouldn't be suitable as pages in my site are of different length. I've read that maybe hooks is the way to go, but despite my efforts to read up on them, I'm still not very familiar with how to use them. My site is currently in maintenance mode, so I can't provide a link, but any help would be greatly appreciated. PS. awesome theme by the way...
catrina 103 Report post Posted March 13, 2011 Using a hook is the most ideal way to change the position of those icons. Which step(s) is/are you have trouble with when implementing a hook? Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to. Designer | Catrina Dulay Founder | Catrina and Mouse
djhix 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2011 Hi Catrina, thanks for your reply. To be honest, all of it. I'm no expert, but I like to think I have a little grasp of editing css and adapting this great theme to how I want it. Right now, my site is perfect, after a fair bit of customizing from me. But for some reason, I can't seem to get my head round hooks. I know there's a guide in the docs, which I've read. I just can't seem to figure out what I would need to type (and where) to get my social icons to sit in my footer. Sorry if I sound like an imbecile!... cmunns 16 Report post Posted March 14, 2011 First you need to locate the correct hook. In thise case, it might be `pagelines_footer`, but really it depends on Exactly where you want it and what sections are present. Then including it is actually pretty easy...so let's get more detailed on location.
djhix 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks for the reply Adam. Yep I want them in my Site Footer. All I have in the footer is the navigation (no sidebars or anything like that). The Social Icons I'm using are Facebook, Twitter, and the RSS icon, all of which I stipulated using the Platform Pro settings within the theme. I would just like those 3 icons (that currently sit in my header), to sit in my footer along with the site nav, footer logo, and site terms statement that are all currently there. bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 You could certainly use a social widget instead, but if you want to use the default icons in a different place this is indeed done with a hook: http://www.pagelines.com/docs/base-child-theme And you'll likely need to use CSS from there. jbsolutios 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 I too am having problems with this. Would you be able to give a step-by-step guide on how to do this please Bryan? Many thanks
cmunns 16 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 Did you try familiarizing yourself with the sample hook? It actually gives you a simple example with the stumble upon icon...you'll see if you use PlatformBase.
readygate 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 Hey, I want to be able to do the same thing... on another post your employee Andrew wrote "Could you just use a hook to add your own icons to the nav section? We didn't design the icons to be moved around outside of the branding section." I understand I could make a custom hook to display social icons in the footer however im trying to set up a template for clients and want to easily be able to insert the links to there social media via the Header and Nav options under social icons section...not have to edit custom hooks everytime. There has to be a way to move this section to the footer
bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 That is quite an advanced customization request. You might want to consider hiring a pro for such an integration. Thanks, Bryan
