Typography settings not updating

Hi there After doing everything I could think of (clearing the cache, re-installing platformpro 3.1.1, checking permissions etc)changes I make under settings>typography still don't get written. I can get the css via chrome>developer tools and do it that way but it takes much more time and I'd rather use the built-in method. (BTW I no longer use custom css because that doesn't stick either. I'm doing all css changes in base.css which is doing the job.) I have platformbase theme installed locally. Ta in advance for any ideas.

WooHoo! Bingo! (I'd read about the ajax setting but forgot about it... I won't forget it again any time soon. But "soon", for me, is a very rubbery concept. Tomorrow? Next year?) Thanks for you help.
