florafair 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2011 Hello, I have a custom-made background that features graphics along both sides of the web page, but the problem is that it doesn't seem to be wide enough to fit the page, and always looks as if it's been cut off. What is the right width for a fixed background image using Platform Pro? I read one recommendation to make it 1920x1080 pixels, but will that be too wide for some screens to see it? And what is the best dpi? 72 dpi seems too blurry. Thank you!
cmunns 16 Report post Posted March 7, 2011 72 dpi is usually good enough for computer screens, but it could also be an issue with the background image being too small. Are you opposed to tiling the image? An image that large is always going to be appropriate for some screens and not for others and vice versa if you scale it down. Can you provide a link so we can see?
florafair 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2011 I had to remove the background because it looked pretty dismal, and made the client unhappy The image was about 1200 px wide and 72 dpi, which didn't seem to work. But for something like this, for instance: http://www.stilettochef.com/, where there is a graphic along the side -- it seems to work well no matter what browser/OS I use. This image, like the one I'm referencing, definitely does not lend itself to tiling because it is meant to be a frame around the content. But when you say an image that large is always going to be appropriate for some screens and not for others, I'm not sure what that means, since all backgrounds (especially ones that are not just patters) are generally large, correct? Thanks again for the help!
bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted March 8, 2011 The default width for the themes is 960px. However, you need to actually measure it to make sure the graphic matches up. Here's a great tool: http://www.iconico.com/caliper/Calipersv15.zip Thanks, Bryan
