Is it safe to compress iBlogPro4 files?

Recommended Posts

Hi I would like to know that is it safe to compress .html, .css and javascript files of iBlogPro4? I need to compress my site since it is getting slow in general so I was thinking that is it safe to compress some of iBlogPro4 files without happening any code or template breaking? Also do you know is there any software that compress html, css and java files?

Compressing the html will make zero if any difference in the speed of you web server. You need to think about using a cache. Give wp-super-cache or W3-total-cache a try.

I think it's safe to do so. You should keep a backup of your files just in case, though.

On other threads, Andrew Powers has stated that CSS and JS shouldn't be minified. Look up his comments on W3 Cache (what pagelines recommends) for confirmation. I have found through experimentation that you could minify some but not all of the CSS and JS. Turning on gzip compression, however, hasn't been problematic for me.

You have to be careful. Some programs try to combine as well as compress which has caused me problems in the past.
