drift 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 I'd like to clarify whether I will need to upgrade both PlatformPro Developer and PlatformPro Base? I'm currently have the PlatformBase (1.0.4) theme activated, and have made all my changes and configurations there. My understanding was that the Base theme can remain in place and I just need to update PlatformPro (currently 1.2.1), which doesn't get activated, but does need to be installed. There's no changelog for PlatformBase indicating whether there's a version newer than 1.0.4. Can someone please confirm? Apologies if I missed something in the docs. cmunns 16 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 PlatformBase should never be upgraded that would defeat the purpose of using it.
drift 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 That makes sense. I have two follow-up questions. 1) Via FTP I can change the name of the existing PlatformPro (i.e., PlatformPro_old). I'll then install the new PlatformPro. How will my PlatformBase know which of these to reference? Do I need to make any changes within PlatformBase to make it run off the new one? *Found the answer to this one from your response on another topic (HERE). It might be useful to include more explicitly in the docs. 2) Since it does appear that there is a PlatformBase 1.3.1 now... What does it do that PlatformBase 1.0.4 does not? (Basically, why does Base ever need to be updated?) Thanks for the fast response. PageLines customer support has certainly become a tangible part of the value proposition when buying a theme from you.
makeylon 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 PlatformBase looks specifically for PlatformPro folder. It won't really see the other one with a different name. Though, I've heard of and have myself seemed to have some weird issues leaving the old folder there. Usually I just delete the folder after upgrading and making sure its working right. I'll save a copy of the old folder on my hard drive just in case. Base included some updates, mainly in documentation I think. Personally, I upgraded base and moved over my changes from the old files. No, it isn't necessary. All the functionality is in the parent theme.
drift 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 Thanks cmunns for the initial answer. You seem to have ample karma, so I'm giving the "Best Answer" to Mark for his clarification and explanation. Again, I think it might be helpful to address the issue of whether or not there's an advantage to using the newest Base theme in the docs. It's not intuitive (for me) that you would offer an updated version if there weren't potential benefits from using it. With you guys offering great new features for PlatformPro on these major releases there is an embedded excitement about what an updated version means.
