binzsolutions 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 Hi, first of all I would like to thank for all your great work and efforts to make 1.3 ready. I am very happy with Platform Pro framework, it really helped me out saving my time on coding and design so I can concentrate on design and contents, QC etc. But still I strongly feel it needs more improvements to be called as a 'framework'. After updating to 1.3.0 (and 1.3.1 later) the first thing I've noticed was a change in summary (excerpts), it took me quite a while to search that little box to put simple '.' into it. This maybe a tiny small thing, but if there were some explanation about this (more than just put a single line in change log) in bold characters or explanation in doc, I did not have to spent my time on it. Anyway, about new features, I understand you've inserted detailed menu for google font swap for H tag, p texts etc. But Why did you have to remove 'Google Font Families' single field in Platform pro 1.2 instead of just leave it there? As a developer it is much, much easier to just put font names there then use CSS to connect font style to where ever I want to, for example, NAV menu and featured pages only. Now I have to go around to do same thing. A good framework should help people managing codes and design easily but I think it should be helping developers as well, preventing from going all the way around to insert just a simple thing. Well, good typography looks cool, but I would like to have a nice simple menu to change blog listing types in each page, for example magazine type in feature page, listing type in search page. Of course I can do it by inserting little PHPs but I think this is much, much more important thing than fonts. And in my experience, I've never seen my clients complaining about fonts since they loved simplicity of basic fonts, arial, helv', georg', verd', etc. Typography is an important element in design, but contents management, layout control is much, much more important in web design I guess. 1.2 was already ok for fonts... Please consider ways to help developers to reduce their working time. Wpmudev guys are great about this but I would like to stick with Platform Pro because I still love it. cmunns 16 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 Certainly it's difficult to try and create a perfect product for both newbies and developers. Meta options handling is the next major thing on the dev list, but we feel that the amount of time that we are saving the majority of people with the new fonts option is much more than it otherwise would be for developers who know how to quickly add a line or two of CSS and script to the head. Thanks for the great feedback, it is thoughtful and we will certainly take it to heart as we continue to develop PP and make it perfect for all parties using it. joeyrudi 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 I agree that PageLines is just awesome. I love it. And I love the update! --- EXCEPT.... Please, please, please show me how I can pull in the Google font variants! I love the new font admin tools. But it doesn't seem to be pulling in the font variants. For example, I was using Yanone Kaffeesatz:400. But the new admin tool doesn't seem to be pulling in that variant. That would be fine so long as I could still add it manually. But I don't see where I can. The result: my design no longer uses the font I was using -- which is more limiting NOW than it was before. Please help. Thanks. Andrew 207 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 There is a filter for adding more fonts in Base... I'll add the docs for that soon.
