Risjaar 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 Hi Guys, A big noob here. I bought Pagelines because it's easier to tweak in Wordpress. At least I thought so. Since the updates, it's hard to get my design settings changed. When I try to update them, they don't update. I'm not a programmer, so I really try and error all the time. I thought my problem was the fact that Wordpress 3.1 updated. Then found lots of similar problems on the forum here. But the thing is: i do get changes in my design settings, but they take 24 hours to change! Strange, ey. What happened: well, i changed all my settings yetserday. Didn't see any changes. Got frustrated, stopped, really regretted ever buying Pagelins. And when i started up today, the changes had in fact been made? Why does it take such a long time? It isn't a cache problem, hadn't had the problem in the beginning (bought Pagelins in december 2010, everything worked fine then). Haven't got a clue what made the change exactly. I'm on a deadline, so i really need help soon. Whats wrong? Tried: - deactivating theme, activating wordpress default, activating base again. - finding dynamic.css to set permission to 666 or 777 but can't find that file on the server (where is it located?). Help! P.S. Make that 1 hour delay. Just checked my chanegs again. Delay for 1 hour. Well, still isn't workable. What's the problem?
peterluit 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 The file dynamic.css is located in platformpro/core/css/. If you set (chmod) the file to 777 with any FTP client, your changes should have their effects in your design and the 'error warning' in Platform Pro settings should be gone. Risjaar 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 Thanks, found the file, changed permission to 777. But discovered even more problems. Still can't change any colors immidiately.
peterluit 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 I don't recognize these problems, did a clean install of WP3.1 together with the latest PlatformPro files this morning (only Carousel is empty, that will be solved in 1.3) I would suggest you do the same after making a backup of your SQL file and your theme settings. Install WP, activate the database, install the theme, and download the settings file. After that try putting back (if any) plug-ins. I hope that works, since you mention you are sure that caching had nothing to do with it.... Peter
strength 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 I have the same problem and only way I have found to overcome is to log out of Word Press and then re-log back in and for some reason the changes will then occur.
ricardo 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 Beware that people have been reporting 2 different issues like its one and the same problem. Those issues are: - changes to settings not being saved; - changes not being applied. The second one, your problem, sounds like browser cache to me... Have you tried to force reload the front side page(s) after making a change in the admin? Search the web for browser specific instructions but holding the shift + control keys and then clicking the reload button should work. Ricardo
Risjaar 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 @ Ricardo: 'It isn't a cache problem' tried on my laptop, different browsers, reload, restart, empty historie: it doesn't change. @ Peter: did two clean installs already, doesn't work either @ Rachel, tried, but didn't work either. It's like changes are made, but a lot slower. Really unworkable.
kastelic 6 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 What plugins to you have installed and does the issue persist if you deactivate them?
scottbruzek 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Hi All, the Design Control changes are not being made because Wordpress 3.1 broke the CSS loading when using Platform Pro 1.2.3. Platform Pro 1.3 was just published (10-20 minutes ago) and addresses the issues. You can go to your launchpad and download the latest version. I installed 1.3 on my test site and it has fixed the issue - CSS and design control settings are updating.
Andrew 207 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Hey Scott, wow you're on it. Download again, we just had to patch a small bug in font previewing
scottbruzek 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Andrew, I'm running Platform Pro 1.3.0.1, with Wordpress 3.1. At first, it seemed that all the settings were updating. Now I can't get Design Control or Custom CSS to update. Any idea why I might still be having an issue? http://sdi1009.sbx.bruzekcomm.com/ Thanks, Scott UPDATE 1: When I tried changing one of the fonts through "Typography", it updated all the settings. Now, once again after this one change, nothing will update including Fonts, Design Control or Custom CSS. It a appears there is still a lingering issue with Wordpress 3.1. Andrew 207 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Scott, try disabling AJAX saving under 'misc settings' and see if that fixes it.
scottbruzek 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 I previously tried saving with and without AJAX. I still can't get it to update. I've tried to put all my Custom CSS code in base.css, and that hasn't worked either.
Andrew 207 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 @Scott, 1. Plugins disabled? 2. Check your file permissions? 3. Which host? 4. Live link?
scottbruzek 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 http://seagull1.sbx.bruzekcomm.com/ (Running Wordpress 3.0.5 to minimize variables here.) All plugins have been disabled. dynamic.css is set to 777. Host is HostDuplex (www.hostduplex.com)
Risjaar 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Okay, here we are again. I think my problem isn't the compatibility between WP and pagelines. I really thought it was strange the updates DO take effect, but with an hour delay. So I tried installing WP and PL with my other internethost. And suddenly all changes immidiatly take effect. I guess my host is delaying the changes. Could that be possible?
Andrew 207 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Absolutely, every host has a different setup.. and especially hosts like GoDaddy have issues with caching. We prefer not to compromise the products to accomodate the bad decisions of hosts. That said, can you ask them about it?
Risjaar 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Yeah, already mailed them with the issue. Hope they attend to it soon. Will let you know what their response is. Thanks for all the fast help!
Simon 248 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Your host is using varnish `Web acceleration by http://www.unixy.net/varnish` It is probably setup to cache css and html for 1 hour
scottbruzek 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 I'll talk to my host as well and see if there is a caching issue. Thanks!
Risjaar 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 Found the problem. My host changed cache-settings. Problem solved with an .htaccess file now. Yeej! Thank a lot for helping out!
