Platform- Create A Template with a sidebar

Recommended Posts

areafivesixonehotmailcom

HI, I'm using Platform to build a Real Estate website. The IDX software displays the search results by choosing a template. Since Platform is setup to be extremely customizable and per page layouts, I am unable to choose a template the guarantees a side bar. How can I setup a template that has a sidebar? Hope I explained this well enough. Any help would be great! Cheers, Jessica

Hi Jessica, Are you looking to create a custom template? From the dropdown you should be able to choose a template that has a sidebar.

Hi, When the IDX asks for results display template it offers, default, highlight, feature, banner, and box as the template options to display search results and it uses the full width version of each template to display the results. Since the IDX software creates it's own page for search results, not a page that I create in wordpress, I am unable to manipulate the page to have a sidebar. Any thought on a work around? Jessica

BTW: the search results also override the nav bar.......not good....they display 'your search results' where my nav links should be. I have seen numberous other wordpress sites running the IDXPress with no problems. Maybe I just need to be able to have control of one template?

Please take a look....it may be the IDX software... hgrefl.com goto blog tab select 'jupiter' under city hit search for properties and you will see the full width results and the nav bar has been overridden to say 'your search results' Please let me know what you think after taking a peek. Thank you! Cheers, Jessica

What are the instructions for IDX. Do they require adding code anywhere? Maybe they give you a shortcode so you can place it in a page with a sidebar. Also, I don't see the "your search results" text that you are referring to.

the idx asks for a template to display results just like how on posts or pages I can select a template. So I will need to make a template that has a sidebar automatically included. Sometime the search results overrides the nav to say 'Real estate in the city of' Thoughts?

I'm looking at the IDX plugin and it looks like it's all shortcode stuff which is independent of the sidebar. So would you just use a default sidebar layout for the page where you use the shortcode? Setting the default layout to a sidebar option will fix this...i imagine right now it's full-width?

OK! got the default to set to sidebar! it was so easy I over thought this. Now If I can just get the nav bar to stop being overridden when searches take place as I wrote before: Please take a look....it may be the IDX software... hgrefl.com goto blog tab select 'jupiter' under city hit search for properties and you will see the full width results and the nav bar has been overridden to say 'your search results' Please let me know what you think after taking a peek. The results don't look full-width to me? and I'm really sorry but I still don't see "your search results" at all so how can they be overriding something?

Hi Cmunns! Sorry for any confusion....fixed the default to have a sidebar: As far as the nav bar being overridden on search results, do you see what I see? Untitled-1.png

Jessica at the bottom of the 'add new' or 'edit' page panel in WordPRess .. there is a meta option to select the layout on that page. Reading through this thread, it would appear that is the answer?

Andrew your the man, and all the other contributors! I can't say enough good about all the pagelines themes especially platform. Cmmuns has helped me solve the sidebar issue. Much respect. My only other issues concerns the image above where the nav bar is wiped out on search results page. Instead of the search result title being below the header in the content section, it shows in place of the main nav links. Please take a look. hgrefl.com goto blog tab select 'jupiter' under city - search bar on right hit 'search for properties' and you will see the nav bar links have been overridden to say 'real estate in the city of Jupiter' Any help on this would be great! Cheers :) Jessica

That's definitely the IDX plugin causing that. If you can't find any sort of menu option in the IDX plugin settings you'll need to check out their support: http://www.dsidxpress.com/contact/ Couldn't find a support forum for them. Thanks, Bryan
