Possible to use NextGen Gallery for Feature section?

It doesn't appear to be possible to configure the feature section using a nextgen gallery. Is that the case or am I missing something? If I'm correct, any ideas how to make that the case?

That would mean completely re-writing a lot of files. What are you looking to achieve? I'm thinking there is an easier way to modify the actual carousel itself then to fit a square peg into a round hole.
