Recent Posts on Static Home Page

I would like to put 3-5 recent posts under a static home page. What is the easiest and best way to integrate this using Platform Pro? I'm not new to websites but I am new to this theme and it is definitely a bit overwhelming at first.

I also want there to be excerpts not just links to the recent posts
