bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 Hi Gavin, Not sure if I fully understand your last question, is this what you're looking for?: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/exclude-pages/ It's probably worth noting that WordPress is not meant to be used for a large number of pages, but posts. Often the best technique is to use posts as pages. Thanks, Bryan
Gavin_+ 56 Report post Posted February 9, 2011 Thanks Bryan I guess its not what we want to hear after having created 68 pages though! If we were to do it as posts how do we arrange it so that the posts do not appear in the blog section?
Kate 3 Report post Posted February 9, 2011 @Gavin I hate to contradict Bryan, but that really shouldn't be the issue. In theory pages and posts should function the same way. Let's try this: briefly switch the theme to the default "twentyten". Then see if all of the items appear in the dropdown nav. If they do, we'll know it's a theme issue... (which would be strange because the default menu is used). If not, it's most likely a WP issue.
Gavin_+ 56 Report post Posted February 9, 2011 although I like your suggestion Kate i can't do that as the site is live. i have taken Bryan's suggestion and am excluding the pages. if ever i am creating a site that needs so many pages again i will let you know. thx

cmunns 16 Report post Posted February 9, 2011 Okay what about this then, try manually re-creating your menu using the WP Menus system. Since right now it's doing it automatically maybe it's a limitation of the wp_list_pages function. This way although the site is live nobody will notice when you make the quick change to the duplicated menu and you'll see if all of the items show up. tergar_admin 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 We have a similar issue. We set up our menus using the default WordPress menus system, and 4th level pages are not showing up in the dropdown (i.e., the main menu item is "Courses", and there's an item under that called "Level 1 Overview", mousing over that causes "Level 1 Introduction" to appear to the right, and mousing over that should cause "Week 1", "Week 2" and "Week 3" to appear to the right of that, but they don't). Thanks to your suggestion above, we tried temporarily switching to the Twenty Ten theme, and it works properly in that theme, so it would seem to be an issue with PlatformPro 1.2.2., unless we're doing something else wrong... We'd be grateful if you can come up with a solution to this. Thanks.
bryan-hadaway 3 Report post Posted February 11, 2011 I think this is because PageLines handles menus a little more advanced than Twenty Ten and most other themes, free themes anyways. - So, the best solution is indeed to create custom menus from the get go so you have complete control over them via: Appearance > Menus - Then there are exclusions plugins to consider. I understanding either is daunting, but it's worth getting setup the right way then trying to workaround the problem. I always recommend custom menus for a solid foundation. In case there is something to ease the issue I'll mark for developer insight. Thanks, Bryan
Gavin_+ 56 Report post Posted February 11, 2011 @cmunns I like your suggestion to my challenge but the idea of doing this for 68 pages does not appeal. thanks, Gavin
tergar_admin 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2011 @Bryan: Thanks for your answer, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "Custom Menus". It looks like you're suggesting using Appearance > Menus to create the menus, but that's exactly what we did. I'm not sure why if PageLines menu handling is "more advanced", it's not able to easily do something that Twenty Ten does by default. Also, we're fairly new at this, so please excuse me if this is an elementary question, but what do you mean by "exclusions plugins"? Thanks!
