Problem with post headline getting pushed over off of the page

Recommended Posts

eborg9

Just the like the title says. I just installed for the first time and when I set it to display any featured posts, it pushes everything over to the other side of the sidebar out of frame. I have reinstalled both the theme and wordpress and deactivated all plug ins, yet the problem still exists. I installed this on a clients site and had no such problem. Any idea what the problem is? http://124bpms.com/

I got it narrowed down to a setting. Under the "Blog and Post" setting. Under "Post Thumbnail Placement", when I check Post/Blog Page..it screws up the whole layout and everything goes all over the place. That's the culprit! Why is it doing that? I've downloaded a fresh install at least 3 times now. Need help.

Hey Harold - It's currently in maintenance mode, so we can't see it. Would you be able to provide login info, or temporarily take it off maintenance mode?

Sorry Kate, I can't leave the site live while it's broken for long periods of time. It's 4 years old and I'd rather have my readers see a maintenance screen than see that. Is there anyway you can contact me when you get around to looking at it? [email protected]?

I don't know what that could be. It was an immediate problem when I downloaded it and installed it. The problem doesn't exist if I switch to another theme. I have narrowed down the instance to a certain setting. I see the You Tube things. But it's not that. It was happening before I embedded any You Tube videos and persists if I remove them. The other markup errors are in the theme that the validator is displaying are in the theme.

Looking at the page source, I see one problem. Why is it displaying images ( the featured thumbnail image) at different sizes? Isn't is supposed to display the thumbnails a universal default size through out? It's basically displaying what ever size I upload. I know that shouldn't be.

So that seems to be the issue. Why is the theme displaying my Featured image thumbnail larger than life? No matter what size I upload, it still is enlarged to take up most of the entire area and seems to be why it's pushing my content off of the page. Surely someone has to have a timely fix for this.

Okay, I see two possible issues to try: 1. Please check the URL in slide 2 for the more link. Is this a correct link: http://www.website.com/ with nothing else added in there? 2. Why are you using an iFrame for the YouTube video? Oh! That's what they are using now! That could be a problem. When grabbing the video embed code, select use old embed code. Thanks, Bryan

I thought that too about the videos, but I tried it with both.codes and it doesn't matter. Actually it's still the same without any videos. It was like this from installation. I just keep going forward with adding content thinking that there will a simple solution but after 3 days I'm starting to loose patience. It's just too easy to use another theme and get the thing done already

Well, you should definitely use the old code anyways. Also, you didn't mention the link situation for feature slide 2? Also, just to be sure, are you using any caching plugins? You may want to disable them and also clear your browser cache and refresh. Sometimes issues arise and we can keep working together to find the solution, this is the design process no matter what. I don't believe this is a bug however it is worth noting that other people were having problems with the new iFrame YouTube videos and were resolved switching back to the old code. Thanks, Bryan

I don't believe it to be a bug with how the theme is designed, because I am using it on a client site and it works just fine. That's a new site, and the one that I am using it on is 4 years old. It's obviously a conflict with something else. I have deleted every plug in that I thought may be causing the conflict, but the problem persists with no plug ins running, no video embeds. It's one thing. Post thumbnails. Why isn't that working? Am I supposed to have another plug to make them display properly? If I don't use that layout, then it works fine. Unfortunately that layout is the whole reason I purchased the theme. (of course. that's always the way)

Just a little something that I found in the page source that loosk strange: <div class="post-header fix " style="margin-left:1013px" > I don't know if that is relavent or not. I have the problem narrowed down. Its the featured image for the post. That feature is not working properly. Without a featured image, the post headlines display fine. With it, everything gets askew and overenlarged. I appreciate all of the suggestions to remove things and change video codes but this is a problem with nothing in the blog. No videos. No plug ins. No nothing. It was immediate since installation, with nothing else running, just posts and pages.

I also can't figure out why it's posting the first paragraph of the content twice. I simply use the <-more-> tag to show an excerpt and it shows the excerpt twice. When I put the except in the excerpt box and don't use the more tag, then it displays the full article. I have this problem on the clients site as well. Day number 4 and I am really getting frustrated with this.

I got it! (you guys should really consider some kind of edit option) The previous theme that I've been using for the last 3 years required that the thumbnail dimensions in the media settings be 900x330.. That was it. I still can't figure out why it posts duplicate excerpts, but at least the major issue is solved.
