Where's the excerpt field for posts?

I also don't have the excerpt field under my posts, and would really like to have it. Have searched high and low and can see no trace of it on the page. Is there a setting somewhere that can affect this field? Thanks, Tom

Click on Screen Options on the top-right of the admin page and make sure Excerpt is selected.
