Add NextGen Gallery or carousel to individual posts?

Is it possible to add a NextGen gallery or carousel to an individual post? If so, how do I do it? There seems to be an option in the post, but I don't understand how to use it. W Also, would the pics appear in the post or in the sidebar for that particular post? Thanks!
