Populating Soapboxes With Posts

Is there a way to populate soapboxes with specific posts? On the sight that I'm building, I have boxes on the home page for News and Events and I'd like to be able to direct new posts to the appropriate boxes as the posts are published . . . Thanks PC

Without digging into the code and customizing something I think possibly using a post plugin and then using shortcode to display different categories in the different boxes. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=posts Thanks, Bryan

Thanks Bryan - I'll play around with these to see what works best with the design. PC
