How to Optimize Image?

Someone told me about resmush.itI tried, at first it works but in the middle of it (probably around 10%) it stuck and I can't upload any images whatsoever to my wordpress.Tried reinstalling the plugin 2 times but still it doesn't work.So i tried optimizing it manually.And then i tried testing my sites to GT Metrix.But in the "recommendation" section, i got "Grade E" in optimize images but it also give me the optimized version of the images.So, i tried replacing the images in my website from the "optimized" images provided by GT Metrix.So, i tried to test my websites againand lo and behold, the my optimized images grade is now E. But the same images that has been optimized before has another "optimized" version. So, my question is, how to optimize images in the most "optimal" and "efficient" method?
