Docker in Context of Larger Page

Recommended Posts

Michael

Hi PL Ninjas,

I'm trying to use Docker as a part of a long page, and I'm not sure if I've configured it incorrectly or if Docker isn't intended to do what I'm trying to make it do.  Here is a link to the page I'm working on: http://comercolor.com/photographic-prints/.

Here is an example of a site that has [what I believe is] Docker working the way I would like it to, essentially nested within a long page and sizing itself vertically according to amount of text on the right side of Docker interface: http://www.prodpi.com/products/photo/photo-printing/.

Following previous PL Forum posts, I've:

  1. Created new Post Type called "Product Sub-Menus" using Toolset plugin
  2. Created a couple of Product Sub-Menu posts, "Details" and "Description"
  3. Navigated to http://comercolor.com/product-sub-menu/ and added Docker to page

When you go to http://comercolor.com/photographic-prints/, Docker is showing my Post Type navigation on the left as expected, but on the right, it is showing "Photographic Prints" like it were a title or something like instead of the contents of the first Post Type navigation element, "Details."  Clicking on "Details" at left seems to take me to a new page that functions as I'd expect Docker to function, though not "nested" within my Photographic Prints page.

So my issue is essentially two parts:

  1. How to get Docker to nest and navigate
  2. How to get right side of Docker to size itself according contents instead of being a static height

I'd so much appreciate any help y'all could give me!

Sincerely,

Mike

P.S. - One thing I'm not sure that I've done correctly is make a Custom Post Type Template.  Here's a thread I was trying to follow that said "4. I then click on a Docs post, add Docker to the page replacing the WP-Content/PostLoop section." instead of anything about templates.  Trying to RTFM, but unfortunately stuck on this one :(

hey @michael apologies for the delay.. must have missed this

first question have you considered using the resources section in PL5? https://www.pagelines.com/product/pl-section-resources/

as far as your other questions, i can't tell exactly whats going on but it appears the big image you have it breaking the way docker works ... does it work without the image?

Hi @Andrew,

No worries - completely understand!

Yes, I've definitely had a look at PL5 but was hoping to make what I already have work before investing further.  Also, from what I see with PL5 Resources, I think I'd be stuck the same way: removing the big image doesn't help (just tested), and I think the problem either has something to do (a) with my not having a Template correctly created for a CPT or (b) the permalinks setup correctly.

With (a), I see "Your theme doesn’t have a template to display Product Sub-Menus." in the Front-End Display menu, which I think was created by Toolset (see earlier post).  If this is a red flag, just point me in the right direction where I can find info to solve - not asking you to do it for me.

With (b), it seems to me that clicking on one of the sub-menu items I created for Docker routes me to a different page (http://comercolor.com/product-sub-menu/details/) instead of just loading new information into the same page (http://comercolor.com/photographic-prints/).  Do you see what I mean?

-MDC

Is anyone able to help me on this? I'd like to stick with PageLines, but it's been almost a month with no answer...
