Complete newbie! How do I auto-archive blog posts?

I am brand new to blogging (using it to help find a job). I have StationPro and would like to know how I archive old blog posts and have the title show up in the right side column www.randycarpadus.com like I see on many blogs.

Okay, check that. I figured that part out. Now I need to figure out how to configure how many posts show up on the main page. I don't want 10 posts to show, only 2-3 then into the archives. Any pointers?

This should be done under 'settings' > 'reading' I believe. After that, I'm not sure about 'into the archives' but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it
