Add alt text to RevSlider and QuickCarousel

Recommended Posts

richardjacruz

I'm sorry to be a bother. I tried looking this up through the forum and then via Google, but  couldn't find the answer.

I want to add "alt" text to the images found in the RevSlider and the QuickCarousel at www.stevensoncrane.com. I added alt text in the media section of WP, and I refresh the page and published, but I still don't see content in the "alt=" part of any image HTML.

Is there a way of doing this with these two sections?

Thanks,

Rich

Hi Rich.

Firstly revslider works by adding the image as a div background, you cannot add an alt text to a css background image.

Quick Carousel however uses image tags, so we can add alt to that..

Ive modded the section to look for attachment alt meta..

https://gist.github.com/Pross/9c38d69575b1654bf4b8

Let me know if it works for you and i'll add it to DMS2 core.

Thanks, Simon.

If it look at the page source, RevSlider is actually treating the RevSlider images as "img" tags within a "ul":

<ul>
						<li data-transition="fade" data-slotamount=	"10" class=" bg-video-canvas"><img src="http://stevensoncrane.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/JoinOurMailingListHeroDec20151.jpg" alt="" data-bgposition="center center" data-bgfit="cover" data-bgrepeat="no-repeat"> <div class="caption slider-content centered sfb stb" data-x="center" data-y="center" data-speed="300" data-start="500" data-easing="easeOutExpo"><h2 class="slider-text"><span class="slide-title">Join Us Today</span> <small>Get the latest news, services, and information in your inbox.</small></h2> <div class="slider-buttons"><a href="/contact-us/join-our-mailing-list/" class="btn btn-large slider-btn btn-ol-white">Sign Up Today</a> </div></div> </li><li data-transition="fade" data-slotamount=	"10" class="element-light bg-video-canvas"><img src="http://stevensoncrane.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/multi-crane-background.jpg" alt="" data-bgposition="center center" data-bgfit="cover" data-bgrepeat="no-repeat"> <div class="caption slider-content centered sfb stb" data-x="center" data-y="center" data-speed="300" data-start="500" data-easing="easeOutExpo"><h2 class="slider-text"><span class="slide-title">Best Cranes in the Industry</span> <small>Need a lift? Our meticulously maintained cranes are ready for rent.</small></h2> <div class="slider-buttons"><a href="/rentals/cranes/" class="btn btn-large slider-btn btn-ol-white">Learn More</a> </div></div> </li><li data-transition="fade" data-slotamount=	"10" class="element-light bg-video-canvas"><img src="http://stevensoncrane.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/telehandler-background.jpg" alt="" data-bgposition="center center" data-bgfit="cover" data-bgrepeat="no-repeat"> <div class="caption slider-content centered sfb stb" data-x="center" data-y="center" data-speed="300" data-start="500" data-easing="easeOutExpo"><h2 class="slider-text"><span class="slide-title">Rugged Telehandlers for Tough Jobs</span> <small>Check out our full line of telehandlers.</small></h2> <div class="slider-buttons"><a href="/rentals/lifting-equipment/telehandlers/" class="btn btn-large slider-btn btn-ol-white">Learn More</a> </div></div> </li><li data-transition="fade" data-slotamount=	"10" class="element-light bg-video-canvas"><img src="http://stevensoncrane.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/aerial-lift-background.jpg" alt="" data-bgposition="center center" data-bgfit="cover" data-bgrepeat="no-repeat"> <div class="caption slider-content centered sfb stb" data-x="center" data-y="center" data-speed="300" data-start="500" data-easing="easeOutExpo"><h2 class="slider-text"><span class="slide-title">Aerial Lifts for Rent or Sale</span> <small>Reach new heights with our fleet of personnel and material lifts.</small></h2> <div class="slider-buttons"><a href="/rentals/aerial-lifts/" class="btn btn-large slider-btn btn-ol-white">Learn More</a> </div></div> </li>
					</ul>

Because of that, the search engines read these images without "alt" tags, which isn't good for SEO, or am I reading this incorrectly?

That "get meta" script looks good to me.

Thank you very much! Do you know when you might roll out that update? No rush... the overall SEO on the site is GREAT!

Alexa gives it a 91/100 right now.

Hi, Simon,

I tried the fix to the section.php file of the "quickcarousel" at the http://dev.stevensoncraneservice.com site (my development site for testing). I see that the code is there, but I don't see that it affected the "alt" tags on the home page.

Thanks.

It looks to me like alt="%s", but (and I might just be missing it), I don't see where "%s" is defined.

Thanks.

Sorry to be pesky... did you update the QuickCarousel at https://gist.github.com/Pross/9c38d69575b1654bf4b8? The code editor tells me that, when I place the code there to replace what we have, that there are no changes to save.

Thanks,

Rich

Hmmm... I copied the revision, but at dev.stevensoncraneservice.com, I still don't see the "alt" tag bring brought in. I cleared the cache. I don't see any change in the page's source code.

Simon, that was awesome. I updated DMS, and BOOM it worked beautifully!

Thank you very much! I'll be sure to update all of my other sites as well.

FYI, I'm going to try PL5 on my next build.

Though I LOVE DMS (as well as Framework)!

      Hello,
We are working on a site and the customers are complaining that the site loads too slowly. They contacted their host who mentioned that the Java Script is all loading at the beginning. Is it possible to delay the load of the less important Java Script until after the initial load to speed up the site? The goal is to load the page faster by minimizing the initial javascript calls.
Are there any preferred plugins that you would recommend or does this end up causing excessive problems with plugins, etc.?
      Thanks for the help!

Hello, I built a WooCommerce website with Pagelines lines and I have two questions.
I would like to add text below my quickcarousel on the home page. Text would be displayed below the image would be the category name. On the Epson carousel you can see text below the image. I would like to do the same thing to my ProCom website.
      https://www.usaprocom.com/
My second question is there a function to show how many items in cart on the menu for pagelines?

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I am trying to figure out how to add text links below images on the QuickCarousel. I am trying to create a carousel similar to the Epson Carousel. I have Platform 5 and using the DMS QuickCarousel.

      Hi guys,
It seems like the H1 tag in the Pagelines 5 framework is missing the entry-title tag. Google Search Console complains about that and it seems like it needs to be fixed in the theme. Based on another thread, this looks like a known issue but I haven't seen any updates from the framework team.
Any indication of what the status on this issue is?
The site in question that I have that issue with is michaelkummer.com.
      Thanks
      Michael
