There is no Indikator on if a page/post is bound to a template.

Please could you indicate

  • eg with traffic lights besida a template
    • eg. green = actual + bound
    • eg. yellow = bound but not actual
    • Indikator @ the connection to (page only, or all types

what do you mean it is "right at the top"?

  • I suppose you mean my last bullet !!!
  • BUT what´s about the first 2 points? ***

*** with actual I mean THE page / THE post

On the builder, its at the top.. like in my screenshot.

You can select current page or all of type.

I unterstand that!

BUT

in Templates ... HOW do I see if

  • the Template belongs to the actual page/post
  • if the Template is on actual status (or on a old one)

Its already been explained in the original template release post..

templates get applied, they are in no way linked to the original.

*** Templates Extension

This is definitely an important one. It's inefficient to have to repeat custom layout design for each blog post, product page, or anything else that will have the same look but for a specific purpose (e.g. you might change the look between two categories of your blog to differentiate between them.)

How should it work?

  • Ability to save (using your own unique name) entire layout with added sections and custom css.
  • Ability to apply and unlock the template to a page/post and then modify as needed.

Essentially the same as in DMS2. I think a better question could be: Can template creation be improved from DMS2?

I must comment, that I think that your comments are incorrect @Simon_

in my opinion: when being in n templates.

A specific template can be at the actual viewed page/ post be

- on the 100% suns state of the template ( nothing has changed from the time when it has been created

-can be different ( something has been changed since the time at that the template has been created)

the he consequence is then from use ability perspective

- someone - Re-saves the same template ( to make the initial template ACTUAL)

- someone reloads - the move back to the initial version

Ok I'll make it simple

page a

page b

user creates a layout on page a and saves it as template a

user goes to page be and apples template a

both pages look the same

user now changes page a and resaves template a

page b does not change because no templates are ever linked

Simon,
I got your description & tested accordingly.

There is one difference, which is in my opinion wrong (what you say above)

  • RE-SAVE
    • is an option that is not available !!!
  • I tried a work around
    • by saving it
    • with the same, existent name
    • what it does
      • it Safes - YES!
      • BUT saves with the same name (TWICE)!
      • so there exist 2 templates .... than have the IDENTICAL name!
    • this should not be possible!

My opinion

  • this is a downgrade of functionality compared to DMS
  • what is the value of a template?
    • except the ability to copy 1 style 1 time to another page/post
    • not beging able to Re-Save (not eine for same page)
    • it is simply a 1 SHOT thing
  • it inhibits efficiency
    • image you have 10 pages of a "certain part" of the site
    • than you think, that you want to change eg. 1 section
    • but you can´t
      • apply it to the other pages (of same style)
      • update it by it´s own

SUGGESTED SOLUTION  (unlock templates form WP strucutre)

  • show by an indicator if a template
    • is actual (up to date)
      • at a current page
      • as it was applied at the start
      • eg. a green point
    • or has changed
      •  compared to the start
      • eg. a red point
  • allow
    • re-saving
      • of template
      • if something has changed from the start
      • template remains same name
    • auto-Update
      • among defined "groups of pages"
      • a group could be defined
        • in "Score" of pages
        • with ability of users to "add group names"
      • a template would than
        • belong to group names (higher instance)
        • that
          • add than changes
          • in case of changes to the template master
          • to all pages of this group

@Andrew ... this is what I mean with reducing functionality  (please do not dorngrade funtionality / Strategic resommendation)

      Hi guys,

please fix this bug: in the template section of the front-end DMS panel the first row elements have the dropodown menu that opens upward resulting in a bug that make the first option (Update template with current configuration) not selectable... please correct this is really annoying!!!

      Thanks
      Best regards
