CSS/LESS bug?

I'm suing a pseudo class for a hr style header with the builder/less window on it works - when you turn the builder/less off the unicode is displayed as the number instead of the star.

hr.style8 {
  padding: 0;
  border: none;
  background-image: linear-gradient(to right, rgba(0, 0, 0, 0), rgba(254, 95, 80, 1), rgba(0, 0, 0, 0));
  height: 2px;
  color: #fe5f50;
  text-align: center;
  width: 70%
}

hr.style8:after {
      content: "\2605";
    display: inline-block;
    position: relative;
    top: -0.8em;
    font-size: 1.5em;
    padding: 0 0.25em;
    background: #A5D8DC;
}
