Updating background

Updating background color does nothing in editor. Is there a way to make simple changes NOT use the editor? It appears to not work. I just want a white background.

I really would like the layout to be the same as vs 3.

Here is my site in vs. 3 of WHPro: http://globalebookawards.com/

Here is the new one: http://globalebookawards.com/new/

I'm sure the client will prefer the boxed layout.

I'm using Background Options on the home page in DMS (see screenshot.) Whenever I hit refresh for preview, my selection disappears and is blank again with no change to the page.

I'm just wanting a white background for the entire website. Will I have to use this DMS method for each page?

CSS on my template page also doesn't seem to do anything.

Sorry, but I am not sure what you mean by CSS on my template page isn't working? What do you mean by CSS on your template?

In regards to the screenshot, that option is a sections background option. You want to add your background option to the Site Settings Color option instead.

I am using white font with a dark blue/purple background but the page color fades in at the top making my white font very difficult to read.  Can someone take a quick look and tell me what I am doing wrong?

I am trying to style the background colors in certain sections to span into margins. I've tried resetting content-pad and resizing some containers and nothing seems to work. What's the easiest way?

This is the page - I want the black to extend to the edge: http://www.cooksmarts.com/about/

Basically I want it to look like the "How We Do It" section here: http://cooksmarts.staging.wpengine.com/about/

I am a newbie and thought I was doing so well!  Unfortunately, I'm now stuck--I've been searching for hours to figure out how to change the background color on a text widget.  I've tried several options posted in various help forums, but no luck.  From what I can gather, solutions vary based on theme being used?  Maybe someone could help me with the code and where to add?  Any help would be appreciated.
