I added a new page, using the main template pages used through out the site. After I published, all headers and footers were deleted and the body of the pages became the default of all pages. I could not recover any of the pages.

Hi,

Something like this was likely caused by either custom code or plugin you have installed. Are you able to recreate the issue when all plugins are disabled?

Also, I have reviewed your site and I am not seeing any issue with your site, as this now been resolved?

If not, to restore your site to how it was before you encountered this issue, you will want to contact your web host provider and ask them to restore from a backup prior to when the issue happened.

I think i'm having a similar issue on custom post types (using Custom Post Type UI WebDevStudios)

I'm doing the following: -

  1. apply a template to a post of 'Area' custom post type e.g. http://keepingwithtradition.com/area/henley-on-thames/
  2. modify some of the sections
  3. click publish

The changes are then applied to all posts of that post type. (e.g. http://keepingwithtradition.com/area/ampthill/)

Any help appreciated!

This is because you can not assign templates to individual posts. Once a template has been assigned to a post, that template is used on all posts for that post type.

Actually the steps I'm follow are slightly different: -

  2.
  3. 1 - apply a template to a post of 'Area' custom post type e.g. http://keepingwithtr...nley-on-thames/
  4. 2 - Publish
  5. 3 - Unlink from Template
  6. 4 - modify some of the sections
  7. 5 - click publish

It seems that all pages stay linked to the template and are not truely 'Unlinked'

I fixed the original issue. However, I have two sites that have totally lost all the data. I have not looked at them in a while and have not changed them in awhile.

Both are running DMS2 Workspace...

sbatkwt - Regardless of the steps you take, you can not assigned templates on an individual post by post basis, this is not supported in DMS. If you assign a template to a post, that template will be assigned to all posts for that post type.

Thanks for the reply Danny.  It was a newbie mistake, I'm now using shortcodes/functions to call the post specific fields from the back end.  Sorted.
