Unique banner image on Aggregate posts page - DMS2, Woocommerce

Trying again...

------------------

Hi Guys

I assume this has been asked before and will greatly appreciate being pointed to the thread with solution.

I have a Woocomerce site I'm building in DMS2 and I need to have a unique banner across the top of each product category page.  Each of these pages would then contain either images of subcategories or of the products themselves.  Since Woo is using a custom Post type to implement products, I have the darn problem that I can't put a unique image/header on each of these aggregate pages, as each time I try, the same/new image is now displayed on all the other category pages.  These categories are handled like Posts archives.

I know I can probably put a bunch of headers and then specifically tell the system to not show them on certain pages, but before I try that, will I run into the same problem? (that stating "don't show on page x, y, z" will automatically do a global overwrite, thus just 1 image agin showing on all category pages???)

Really appreciate some help on this guys as I'm about to launch this puppy and client is about to purchase high quality images for all these category pages.  Be embarrasing to say it can't be done with Wordpress/DMs.

Thanks

JEO

Hi,

Unfortunately, DMS does not allow you have a unique template on individual category pages. Therefore, if you wish to have a unique header/banner image on a specific category page, you will need to likely use a hook and some conditional logic.

Hi Danny

Appreciate your reply. Kindly point me to a resource where I can bone up on what hooks would be required in this situation.  I can do the coding, but need to know :

1) What variable to check to identify the category page in question (I understand I can find the "post id" in WP backend, but what variable to check in the conditional logic?)

2) What hook for a banner image?

3) So would this require custom code in the functions.php?  Else where?

Also, using RevSlider to get the full width effect - I assume I can use a Media section here?  Would that be less resource intense?

The old PlatformPro had a nice section that allowed text overlayed on a large banner image.  What does that in DMS?  RevSlider just has small band of text under the image.

Thanks

JE

1. For all hooks related to categories, you will need to review the WordPress codex - https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_categoryAlso, be sure to check out the WooCommerce documentation for all available hooks in WooCommerce.

2. Not sure what you mean, by "What hook for a banner image?" Here are some good articles on hooks:

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2011/10/07/definitive-guide-wordpress-hooks/

http://blog.teamtreehouse.com/hooks-wordpress-actions-filters-examples

3. To apply hooks to any theme, you will need to use a child theme. Editing the core DMS functions.php file is not recommend nor support and will likely break DMS. See here for more information - http://answers.pagelines.com/how-to-install-a-child-theme

Not sue what section you're referring to in-regards to the section. However, you can use a Canvas section, upload an image and add any section to it for your text.

Hi

Maybe a look at the site will help explain better: http://ecoluxhomeproducts.com/storedev/ If you click on any product category in the green nav bar (Green Home, Kids/Babies,...) you will see there is a banner image (currently using single image in a Rev Slider in a canvas area on top).  Would like to have that kind of effect but maybe use Media box?  How else would you recomend having a banner image above the Woocommerce product category?

Thanks for the links. Am reviewing codex now, but since this is using DMS, I suspect will need to create child theme on top of DMS, but how to integrate this beast??? I see codex references to WP header functionality, but DMS has it's own way of dealing with images obviously.

Will appreciate if you would take a look at the link and advise further. Seems this is such a fundamental and useful thing I can't believe no one has come up with an elegant solution for it yet?

Thanks

JE

DMS out of the box doesn't support the ability to have assign different templates on a category by category basis. Therefore, you will need to use hook, which I mentioned above. You could also create your own section and use WordPress conditional logic to only show a specific image on a particular category.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide assistance with hooks, as it is considered advanced customsiation. Therefore, if you're not comfortable achieving this yourself, you may contact our helpdesk where our staff will provide you with contact info for our trusted developers and agencies, who will be able to do this for you.

I'm building a product catalog site. The featured image is set correctly, but the woocommerce placeholder image is displaying instead. If I click on the placeholder image, the featured image appears, and the featured image works fine as a thumbnail.
Please view the site here: http://www.directmat.net/product/power-lock-logo-mat/
Note: I deleted the placeholder image via FTP to see if that would inspire Quick Shop to look for the featured image. No such luck. Please help!

I'm using Woocommerce in a Pagelines framework. When I build out a product, I'm able to add images in the admin panel and the
Product Image will display on Shop page, but neither the Product Image nor the Product Gallery will display on the product's dedicated page.

      Hello everyone,
I face a common problem as I can see on relevant topics with quickshop plugin.
On Product Single page of woocommerce, i use quickshop as layout. The primary photo of my product doesn't appear on the thumb slider, but the first image is the default placeholder.
Need some help not with custom script in the product description for each product.

I have Quickshop installed on my WooCommerce section of this website: http://a04.125.myftpupload.com/
      Main Shop: http://a04.125.myftpupload.com/?page_id=1198
I've having what appears to be CSS issues on the individual product pages. After cleaning up any code accessible from the wp-admin, the page still appears broken. I never tried to customize it, it just came broken like this right out of the box.
You can see examples of it broken on every single product page, see here:

I am setting up a Woocommerce site using PL Framework and Platform 5. I added a hook so the category description appears under the category page titles (on archive pages). However, it also appears under the title on the main "shop" page (which I have renamed "Catelog" page). There is a default description here and I can't figure out for the life of me where it is being generated from so I can change it. Any ideas how to change it or delete it on the main shop page ONLY? The staging site is here - http://16e.117.myftpupload.com/ and the page in question is http://16e.117.myftpupload.com/catalog/
I have hit up Woocommerce support and they weren't familiar with Platform 5 and recommended I contact you.
Your help would be appreciated, thanks!
      Michele
