WP Engine Server Migration & Copy Installation Problem

Recommended Posts

dawsonbarber

I originally added some posts to an existing thread I found by doing a search:

http://forum.pagelines.com/topic/35578-wpengine-copy-fail-502-bad-gateway-error/

It turns out that that was in a PageLines sub-forum, not DMS.

Hopefully by posting here, I'll get a response.

My original addition to the above-noted thread had to do with an installation copy on WP Engine that did not go well.

WP Engine had a senior engineer take look at things and found that the root cause was that the theme (I'm using iBlogPro6) was coded to set options using the absolute server path instead of the relative path.

Did a search and replace (of the copy-from and copy-to domain name) with this: https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/and everything loaded as it should.

That, of course, should not be necessary.

Today we did a server migration on WP Engine and I ended up with a blank site, due to the same problem.

It would be nice if this could be addressed in an update (to any/all themes "guilty" of this same problem).

Please advise.

Yes, DMS does store absolute values in the database, PHP requires absolute paths to include files, no way around that.

DMS will clear all those paths and rebuild them whenever anything in this list happens:
  • You activate a plugin
  • You deactivate a plugin
  • You update a plugin
  • You update a theme
  • You publish a page in DMS editor
  • You click save in DMS options in wp-admin
  • You create/update/delete ANY post or page in wordpress.
  • There are programatic ways to do it as described in the post you linked, but doing anything in that list is a lot easier.
I have told the WPE people 2 or 3 times now that any of these actions will rebuild the data.

Hey Simon

Thanks for the information.

Just so I'm clear...after doing an installation copy or a migration between servers on WPE and getting a blank site, all I have to do is any one of those things on your list and the "problem" will be solved?

Cheers

Yes, anyone of those actions would clear the internal cache and rebuild the paths.

      Hi Pagelines team and community,

I am going to be attempting to do a full migration from GoDaddy to WPEngine.
I need to know, will I lose the front-end customisations I have made?
Also are there any backups or things I need to do to ensure that I do not lose any important info relating to the site?
      Kind regards,
      Dan

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
My theme is up to date

      Hi All
I have just migrated my theme from a perfectly functioning local version to my server and it looks corrupted.  I have followed the standard migration (Replace WP Content, Upload Database, Search & Replace URLs)
Things I have tried to rectify the problem:-
Changed Permalinks, deleted .htaccess file Deactivated Plugins Removed all custom CSS But It all still seems to have the same problem the url for the website is as follows: www.blueanchor-reigate.co.uk

      Hello,
I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.
