Transferring a website to a new database and web domain

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have been working on a new design for our website. I designed it on a new database on 1&1 and on a spare domain name http://www.robotic-surgery-ent.com

i have tested the transfer process on another free domain we own at www.sphinxjr.com

i have included before and after shots of the same page before and after the transfer. i can't think what i am doing wrong. i download the database from 1&1, change the web address lines from the robotic-surgery-ent to sphinxjr. i then upload it to the new database. i then download all the files from the design domain using ftp. i then copy the entire files over to the new domain (changing the config file over to reflect the new database name, password, web address  etc etc)

as i see it, i have made a mirror copy with the only changes being the database name and log in details. what am i getting wrong? the pages text and images are all correct but the DMS style i designs (i.e. layout, menus etc) are all missing.

i searched for help on transfering a website but couldn't find anything on your site, so looking for  help here.

Cheers

Rob

I just figured out my own problem. i needed to read the new wordpress instructions

they no longer recommend using search and replace to change the web addresses in a text editor or the like. instead, they recommend using 'better search and replace' plugin, before or after the transfer of the site. i used the plug in after the transfer and it worked great. the old way of search and replace breaks some of the new coding.

Cheers

Please, you can take a look to this

http://www.pagelines.com/docs/dms/

Go to "Upgrading and Migration" too

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
My theme is up to date

      Hello,
I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.

Hi, I'm a long time PageLines and DMS user. Trying out Platform 5 now.
Does Platform 5 store data like DMS 2 as serialized data, or does it store data in a regular WordPress mysql table?
      Thanks very much.

My DMS 2 site http://www.heart-stone.com/ will not save any new custom css... I can still edit templates and publish those but any custom css that I enter never saves.
All WP files, themes, and plugins are up to date.
Any thought about what might be causing this?

Is there a way to edit the custom CSS via FTP? I know I can edit the custom code in the Chrome editor but is there a file path I can use to find and edit the CSS directly from our FTP?
Thanks in advance for the help!
