Pagelines Framework update to 2.4.6 has altered Feature slider appearance

Recommended Posts

Hello,

After updating the site below to Framework 2.4.6, the main feature slider has changed appearance, now looking pixellated. Before it looked perfect.

Please can you advise what I should do to make the slider look correct (should be 250px high). See attached for an indication of what is happening.

Several other the sites we have created use PageLines Framework and I am wary of updating them to 2.4.6 if it will cause all Feature Sliders to break in this way.

Many thanks,

Phil Chandler

Hi Danny

Not a screenshot exactly, but a small image created from when the site was launched a few years back.

Hope that helps.

Phil,

I have used older version of PageLines Framework with your image and I have no been able to recreate your screenshot with either version. Therefore, to have your feature slider look like your screenshot, you must have used custom code.

Hi Danny

Thanks for your reply. Does it matter if custom code was used or not? The point is that the site was fine before the update.

PageLines have a duty of care towards its paying customers – your update caused my client's site to change appearance. Please can you look into this properly.

Many thanks,

Phil

Phil the features section code was last updated on May 14 2013 and that was version 2.4.2 of PageLines Framework.

There were 4 releases after that, with the latest being 2.4.6 which fixed the security vulnerability posted in January.

It looks like your site does not use a child theme, so if you edited the features for whatever reason, updating the theme files would have overwritten whatever files you edited.

Simon,

The site was created in 2012 using which ever version of PageLines Framework we had then. The site had not been updated until last week.

If, as you say, in May 2013 the Feature Slider code was changed, it seems likely to me that this is the reason the slider changed appearance after the update. This may also be the reason that Danny could not replicate the appearance in his earlier response.

Yes, perhaps I should have kept the theme updated regularly, but you have admitted yourself that the code was changed after the website was created. With all this in mind, please can you help me resolve this issue.

Many thanks,

Phil Chandler

Well the change 2 years ago was very minor and nothing to do with styles.

Before updating really old websites with really versions of themes id advise you to make backups, i'm sure you do that already anyway.

If you know what version you were on before, its easy to get specific versions from the github repo.

Updating to the version of Framework caused the slider settings to change from 'static height' to no setting at all.

Danny, Simon, perhaps you should have thought of that before accusing customers of meddling with code, etc.

The update should not have changed your Feature Settings, that is why I suggested you may have used custom code. To which you reply was:

"Thanks for your reply. Does it matter if custom code was used or not? The point is that the site was fine before the update."

Of course it matters if you have used custom code or not. Especially, if you're using a child theme or not. The whole purpose of a child theme is so that your customisation doesn't get removed when an update to the theme is made available. Also, we didn't accuse you or using custom code, I simply suggested that I was unable to recreate how your slider was displayed on your screenshot, so I asked the question have you used custom code. That is not accusing you, it is asking a question so we can resolve your issue quickly.

However, I am happy to hear your issue has been resolved and I apologise, that I didn't test with the static height option, it didn't even enter my head. However, I will remember this in future.

      Hello,

      The feature slider images are stacking vertically upon the page load on all browsers.  I found a forum topic that used the following css coding but this is not working for me.

      #page #feature-area {
                   overflow: hidden;
           }
        I can't take the screen capture fast enough to give a shot of it.   I'm using the newest version of WP and the url is modelalliance.org.  Any help would be appreciated!   Best,   Kelli

      Regarding the feature sliders at this url:
      www.heartbecoming.com

      I need to be able to credit the artist for the images directly at the images on my website.  It seems like the cleanest way to do this is to add hover text to the images with the name of the artist.  I can't seem to figure out though how to add the hover text to the image.  Images displayed in posts and on pages use the title as hover text so that is workable.  Please advise on showing hover text for feature slider images.  Thanks!

      I've tried disabling all plugins and erasing the custom code and this problem persists as you can see in the attached image ( the max. size per file is way too small by the way ).
      Please help.

      Ever since the last update my feature slider doesn't load correctly and the images run the length of the page. Not sure how to really trouble shoot since the problem is intermittent.

      Please, make the following options switchable in iBlogPro5 options:

      #feature_slider #feature-area {     background:    box-shadow;   The background should be switched off to »none« by default. That way the beautiful grey and white design with box-shadow shows up. It matches perfectly with the iBlogPro5 design, I think. And if it is switchable, you can easily come back to the regular framework design with black canvas.
