Need to know ramifications of downgrading from paid to free

I have a developer license and design client sites in DMS2. I typically host my clients and include their DMS license/upgrades as part of that fee. I have a client with a site in DMS2 that wants to move away. He wants to know if he can use the free version. I looked in the WP repository and it looks like the free version displays a little DMS bug in the bottom right corner. But as I looked through several threads on this forum none of the sites had that. Is there any way to tell what would and wouldn't work from a site? Otherwise I guess he'd need to buy the $99/year to get updates. .What else should I be aware of as I communicate about this change to the client? Thanks.

HI Sheila,

Not sure what you mean to be honest ?

If you have a Developer license, why are your clients purchasing a license too ? Just use your own license on their website ?

The licence pays for updates and support. If you upload your copy of DMS to someone elses site and they dont have a licence or you dont put your licence into the updater they wont get updates, simple as that. There is no need for them to use the free version from .org

simon, thanks for clarifying. Good point.

Danny, I just don't generally GIVE access to my license past the first year unless I continue to host them. So then I would expect them to buy the services. But I see your point too.
