Should I update?

Just got the security update email and have applied the plugin patch. I've let my updates lag and am still on 1.5.2. Just wondering:

 

1. Do I need to upgrade to 1.6.2 for security or other reasons?

2. If I update to 1.6.2, will I lose all my settings/is there an easy way to ensure this won't happen.

 

I can't remember if I've updated or not before - it's been a while.

If you installed the patch plugin you are safe from the exploit.
