DMS 2 Multisite with both DMS 1 & DMS 2

I have one multisite setup and one of the sites has DMS1 on it. I can't update it to DMS2 as it will break it and require too much work for zero gain (it's a probono project). Now we  want to update another site in the group and I want to use DMS2. But of course normally you cannot have both on one install as DMS requires a directory named DMS. I'm writing to ask if there is any known workaround to that? Would it be possible to rename a directory and someone who is a dev could then rename whatever needs to match?

 

As a feature request...IMHO I think we SHOULD be able to have both versions installed even on a non-multisite setup...but especially in a multisite.

 

Fingers crossed there's a way to do this even though I'm pessimistic.

you *can* install it in another folder and ignore the warnings...

 

Updates wont work tho and you'll have to understand we wont be able to help you if it goes wrong ;) but it should work.

Thanks Simon. BTW...I'm very sorry about my little transgression. I was only trying to be helpful. It won't happen again. I've had about half a dozen folks email me with that warning because they know I use PL.

 

Anyhow, on topic... I'd want to somehow make the DMS1 the one that could no longer be updated and then install a new updatable DMS2. What needs to be changed for it to work?

changing a current theme folder will break stuff, thats the problem.

OK...so you're saying I could add DMS2 in a custom named folder and it would work. I'd just have to do manual updates on it? Seems less than ideal.

 

Do you know if there's a reason why they can't be setup to install uniquely? I mean my previous theme has unique names for their versions. Can you submit that as a feature request or is it not worth even asking for it?

you wont get updates, the folder name will be wrong, wordpress uses the folder name to lookup updates ;)
