Section content still disappearing

So I have posted this before.. I think but could not find it. 

 

This time I have created a one page website and are using alternate sections for different devices.

At the end of the page I did create a different contact section that was hidden for desktop users and one hidden for mobile users.  But the one created for mobil users disappears every time I try to publish the site. This is really irritating and this is a bug. Like it or not.

 

I also created a different menu in a separate section in the same maner as the one further down. The content of this section also disappears. and it really doesn't matter what I put in there. All that is put in is gone.

What is happening and why? I really like DMS but it is still unstable in my opinion.

Hi Peter,

 

I am unable to recreate your issue on my end. Therefore, can you provide me with the exact steps and sections you're using that have the issue so I can try and recreate this myself. Then see if this is indeed a bug or related to something on your site or server.

 

Also, can you recreate the issue when you have no plugins active ?

Sorry for a very late reply but i have had a computer crash and when I got my new Mac Pro it was broken ;-( But now I am back on track.

Step 1. Create a new header area

Step 2 Duplicate PL Next box and it's content (but this can be any section)

Step 3  Drag the duplicated section to the new header area (below the first)

Step 4. Go the the area just before footer and duplicate the contact section Area (not the content)

Step 5 Insert Masthead and a media box

Step 6 Hide new section for desktop users 

Step 7 Refresh

Step 8 hide the first sections that you copied from for mobile users

Step 9 Refresh and publish

 

And now it works... just because I took the time to wright the steps down.

 

But I can ensure you that I have done this 10 times or more before and it disappeared. 

Well what the heck now it works so n problemos any more.

Hmm, yeah I am not able to replicate the issue from the steps you provided. Therefore, it could have a hosting issue or caused by plugin. I know we say this quite a lot, but 99% of the time they're the cause.

If you encounter this issue again Peter, please reply to this topic and list all plugins you have active, as well the host of your sites and we can try again.

It just disappears the whole footer content? Why

Does this happen when you disable all those plugins ?

Also, what the steps for the Footer region ? Are they the same for the ones you mentioned previous regarding your Header ?

Well the plugins are there for a reason ;-) And I can not disable them now. I will have to try it out locally.

 

One question regarding the custom section. What are they for? Am I not supposed to be able to create a section, put content in it

and save it as custom section. Then use that same section in a different place. Since all the sections disappears for some reason, I

thought that would be a great idea to save the sections in order to easy put them back. But the custom sections is empty?

So what is the meaning with custom sections?

 

Please help me understand! And I don´t think it matter if it is in the header or footer. I would be glad to send you 

either a login to the live site or a complete file so you could set it up by your selfe locally.

 

Nothing you have to do. But if you like, I would be happy to send you a copy of the whole site. Just let me know.

For your information. Now i downloaded the site and set it up liocally. All I did was this.

 

1. I went to the footer area

2. changed to the English site

3. Enterd the footer area and put a section I created my selfe in one of the footer sections. (Empty of cource)

4. went back to the swedish site (page) and BAM the whole swedish footer section was gone!

 

I did not save anything and i did NOT push to live view. I did nothing. I could how ever push the "un do" button twice!!

and then i got the sections back!

Finally i think I have located the issue. And if I am correct this has to do with hiding specific pages. i deactivated all of my plugins. And I activated them one by one. And after activating each plug I went to input my saved section. It worked every time until i entered some specific pages to be hidden (Hide on specific pages or posts? (IDs Comma Separated)  After I did that, the content of the saved sections was vanished on all pages. And I was no longer able to put the section back. That is the section exists but with NO content.

 

Since there is no other way to translate footer area other then to hide pages on certain pages this is a mager issue for me.

 

Perhaps you can try to replicate this. These are the pages I had hidden 18,26,59,364,393,396,273,1147,108,435,22 I know that does not help you, but these are all the english pages. And I had to hide them so they did not show up on my Swedish pages.

I have the same issue on yet another site and the sections disappears all the time. Ant at this point I don't really know what to think of it. And I am surprised that no one else have this issue, since i have it on almost every site i have created. But here is a recording of this last site. Just to prove that it is happening..

This is still a problem but to day I got around it by doing this

 

I went to another page. Not the index page and inserted a widget section in the footer. I entered the ID for the index page so it would be hidden (not the ID of the page I am on). I pushed publish on the page I am on. Good, everything looks fine. No I went back to the front page (Index) and If i Don't push publish on this page (the button is now blue) It sticks. However if I push publish on the index page, the section disappears from all pages again.

Hi, since this thread, there are several persons with the same issue. I don´t really care any more and have moved over to PL5, mainly becouse of this issue. But I have a site http://smakom.se where this happens all the time here http://smakom.se/medlemmar/ the blue section. In there there should be a "highlite section" with white text. That text is gone most of the time for NO reason what so ever. Feel free to observer or what ever.
