sections disappear, duplicate and move

Hello,

I need some help. I was almost finished designing a site for a client last night on my local drive when I was adding some stuff to sections that were already present and when I saved it deleted other sections and the section won't render not in the editor where i want to put it.  I thought it was just my local drive so I created a subdomain as a demo site and transferred the site, but I am still having the problem.

I don't want to touch any more pages in case I lose all the sections again.

here is the site http://otapdemo.1201llc.com/.  I am trying to make the home page looks like the "who we work with page" by using the pl next box on the right and then a coding the facebook feed in the pl next box under the image.

but the pl next box won't stay there.  It will show in the editor but either moves the content if you look at it not in the editor or it doesn't show up!  i also had 3 media boxes under those main sections that had clickable images that changed images when you hovered over them and they disappeared as well.

when i try to add a section on the homepage it duplicates.  I am pretty much at my breaking point with this as I have spent a lot of hours and have been pretty frustrated. Not sure if it this theme or dms.  I used whitehousepro6 theme this time because it had the look and functionality in the slider pieces that I wanted. And I thought it would be easier just to build this simple site and use a little customization that way.

But i had to customize the navigation and still can't figure out how to get the blue lines to go away.  In additions I will be putting in a custom footer (which was already there but also disappeared!)

here is the original site we built on our platform http://www.noapebble.com/pebble-061/and we are moving it because our platform is not user friendly for the client to go in and change content.  but the home page you see there is exactly what my home page looked like on pagelines. except all my section areas keep getting pushed out and deleted.

The other problem I had was that I tried to upload my cloud background but depend on the length of the page it ended up just stretching and distorting the background image... still trying to figure out how to deal with that as well.

PLEASE HELP!

Hi,

Sections being removed or deleted, is not the intended behaviour of DMS and therefore, it is likely something else is at work here. This could be related to the custom code you entered into the NextBox section, plugin you have installed and/or your servers configuration.

1. When you say you were working locally, were you using a app such as MAMP or was this something different, can you explain what your setup locally was?

2. What was the code you entered in the NextBox section?

3. Would it be possible for you to create a new page and record yourself working on that page and demonstrate your issue(s) please.

To remove the blue borders on the menu items, use the following code:

#site .section-whpheader .menu-item {
  border-left: transparent;
  border-right: transparent;
}

You can find these blue borders by inspecting the menu items li tags and seeing the styling used, all the code does above is override that styling.

Regarding your image, where were you trying to upload this image? If you were uploading to a Canvas section, it will use the CSS property and value of background-size/cover which resizes your images to fit the container it is added to and therefore, some of your image may be cut off to keep the image in proportion.

Lastly, I have ran a reverse IP test on your domain and found that you're currently using shared hosting and have 1000 websites on the server your site is hosted on. This is not an ideal environment to host your website, as all other websites are using the same server resources as your site. Shared hosting is extremely cheap and poor web hosting and therefore, your server configuration may be the cause of your issues.

I have provided a screenshot of the reverse IP test results - https://cloudup.com/cM1jvqywuwh

Hi Danny,

so i ended up doing a work around for it and just using tables in word press page to format the content for the home page and my images and links... which ended up working just fine so that I just then used the wp/content loop section.

but it was strange.  I used the same code in the nextbox section on the home page as was used on the who we work with page but it was just causing issues on the home page for some reason and no other page.  it was very frustrating.

Thanks for the coding for the nav section that will be very useful for me.

as for the background... in order to keep the background proportions so that the image does not stretch or limit the stretching so that the image does not get distorted can you guide me on how to do that?  I don't want to lose the cloud images from the noapebble site sample I sent you.  I was hoping to just put it into the background globally instead of the canvas section. but had issues either way.  What size do you recommend for your background if putting it into the global background so that it covers and does not stretch?

This site will be moving to it's final resting place domain after it is completed.  For right now I just created a subdomain to throw the demo on so that you could see it but also that when I am done I can review with the client for any additional changes.  But thanks for that advice, I hadn't really thought about the IP issues before.  I am going to look into what private hosting services my current provider may offer.

If you want to have a background image you will want to use upload a background image via DMS Toolbar > Settings. As for your cloud image, you can try adding this to your Canvas section in your header.

Hi Danny,

so I am still having issues with the pl nextbox that I think you should be aware of.  I had it on one of the internal pages and it was all good and working on the demo site. I went to show the site to the client and the section disappeared!  Very embarrassing situation to deal with in front of a client.  When I went to manually put it back in it was missing from my sections completely.  I checked that the plugin was active and it was, so I deactivated it and reactivated it and it still did not show up.  there should be no custom coding interfering with it but who knows.

I am going to have to stop using this section since it is causing many hours of pain and heart ache.  Any other people having issues with it?  I am disappointed because I could have good use for a section like this.

Also, for this site I am using the docker section.  is there a way to customize the side bar so that I can change the line spacing, get rid of the blue line around the area and style those links like buttons (like the ones on the who we work with page)?  sorry I know it is a lot but I thought I would seek your guidance instead of sitting around trying to make things work for hours on end.  please let me know your thoughts.

I have used the NextBox section extensively and not once encountered your issue. Therefore, as you're entering custom code into the section it is very likely that your code is the cause. What code are you entering into the NextBox section ?

There are no options in the Docker section to style the sidebar links in the way you want. Therefore, to do that you're going to need to use custom CSS. The best thing to do is use Chromes dev tools, inspect the element and this will show the correct class to override.

okay, no problem I will see what I can do after using the chrome inspector for docker.  I knew that would be the case, I was just hoping it wasn't I guess....

Here is the code I used in nextbox... (obviously I don't do much css code so I am sure you will find something in here that is causing the problem) the buttons are generated by a shortcode from a plug in.

The code you have provided above, shouldn't cause any issues. However, as this is a shortcode coming from a third party plugin and once I have never used personal. I am unable to tell us that it is or isn't the cause of your issue. For me personally, I think you're going to need to switch web host provider, as the environment you're currently working in i.e. shared hosting, is not ideal for a dynamic website running a CMS like WordPress.

      I am having an issue with DMS editor not loading.  Just keeps spinning and spinning.
      Have tried several things - Logged in and out, cleared cache, deactivated all plugins, but the issue persists.
      I even had our host restore from a backup a few weeks ago, when I know it WAS working, as I edited a text box on the homepage.  The restore from backup didn't help either.
      Also, the front end of the site shows that the site is framed, or boxed now (whatever you call it), instead of full width as it was previously (last week).
      Dev console shows that there are php errors in Google maps - file is attached.
      Can someone please help?  Not sure what else I can do here...
      Thanks in advance.
