Removing code for StumbleUpon icon crashes site

Recommended Posts

Can anyone shed some light on the nature of this problem? I just migrated my site over to PlatformPro and I'm trying to remove the default StumbleUpon link in the header and from what I've read I need to remove the code from the functions.php file.

?> <?php }
But whenever I do this my entire site goes blank and I've got to SSH into my server and add this code back before my site will come back online. What am I doing wrong? Not a coder, obviously :)

Hey Chad - It looks like you were trying to do a copy/paste, but it doesn't look like it worked. Could you re-post your code, please? EDIT: Actually, here's basically what that part of your functions.php will end up looking like:

	// what the function does??“in this case adds a stumbleupon icon to the header of your theme. The class referenced in the link can be seen in the style.css
		// and is the image from the CSS is placed in the images folder
			?>
	<?php }
		// end function

Basically you just want to remove the anchor tag: ``

Thanks Kate -- I think that was the problem. I was removing that entire section...whoops. On another note...is there a way to change the order of the social media icons in the header?

@Chad No problem. Just so you know, you can take out those comments as well... just don't remove the PHP tags! ;) (You actually can remove the PHP tags, but the issue you were probably running into is you weren't deleting the intro of the function: `function add_icons_to_branding(){`) Anyhow, as for the order of the icons: I can check, but off the top of my head I would say you have two options. The first is to rearrange them via CSS. (Think margins, negative margins) The second option would be to manually insert the icons/links you want in the functions file, where you just removed the StumbleUpon icon from. The downside to this is that it won't be hooked to the admin panel. (Probably not a big deal, but just want to point it out.) Let me know if you need more info on either of those options.

Awesome, thanks Kate for the follow-up! I think I may just manually add them and leave them unhooked from the admin panel if that is what it takes. I don't think I should be messing around with the CSS on my site ;) -Chad

@Chad No problem. :) I haven't looked into it yet, but if I find out about another solution, (or if someone else has one), we'll post it. Take care! Kate
