Problem overriding Docker default sort options

Recommended Posts

bwdsl247

I use Advanced Post Types Order plug-in and am trying to control sort of items on Docker.

I am using Docker to display a custom post type and it works great except Docker seems to be refusing to allow Advanced Post Type plug-in settings for the post type to override it's own sort settings --- which are limited (Date Ascending / Date Descending / Random).

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi,

There is no Docker post type, the post type for docker is one you assign yourself which you have also created yourself. So if you're unable to sort your custom post type, then the likely cause is how you have crated the post type.

As I have just created a custom post type with the Custom Post Type UI plugin, called it movies and add a bunch of new movie posts. I then went to the Re-Order menu item in my custom post type and re-ordered the post types to a specific order and when I saved and refreshed my page, the items were in that order.

So the issue has to be with how you have created your custom post type.

I understand that there is no Docker post type, that you set which post type you want to display with Docker.

But, I do see the option called 'Element Order' in the Docker Settings.

https://www.evernote.com/shard/s50/sh/b4fe41c9-989e-4925-a833-72b1b4a73da2/95d1c9f2b97ad0fa60e20e2bba0e28d3

So, I guess it just offers these 3 default order options for whatever post type is selected...

I thought perhaps if the post type had other custom fields in it, it would display the field in this control, but guess not...

I'm still not having any luck getting Docker to pay attention to any of my Advanced Post Type orders for any post types.  Not sure what the culprit is.

Maybe plug-in conflict or something...

I noticed when I first drag a new Docker to a page, the Element Sorting control automatically sets itself to Date Descending vs. the default for most new DMS object drop-downs when they're first added to a page, which is the top "Select" option (nothing yet selected).

All I did was create a custom post type, create a new posts for my custom post type and then re-ordered them using the Advanced Post Type order plugin. When I refreshed the site, the dockers posts were in the order I positioned them using the orders plugin. Therefore, if you're unable to do this or Docker is not using the order you have set, then the likely cause is either how you have configured your post type and/or a plugin conflict.

I also, didn't touch the Docker sections order option, I left at the default setting, then order the posts via the re-order menu panel for my post type.

Therefore, if you disable all active plugins except for the one you used to create your custom post type and the Advanced Post Type order plugin, see if this resolves your issue. If it doesn't then please record yourself attempting to order your post type so we can how you're doing it. We recommend either Jing or QuickCast.

Danny - you're using Types to create your custom post type, right? Are you checking any of the checkbox options for the new post type you're creating (there are a lot of them) or just using the defaults Types sets for new custom post types?

Thanks.

I do not use the Types plugin, I used the Custom Post Types UI plugin.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/

I do not use any of the advanced options, I simply added the post type names and clicked save or publish (whatever the button is called).

OK, I am using same plugins as you.

Disabled all plug-ins but Custom Post Type UI and Advanced Post Type Order

Still getting same behavior.

I will record my exact steps and post a video shortly. Hopefully you can see what the culprit is.

Thanks, Danny.

Danny - please take a look at this video (no audio).... do you have any further suggestions?

Again, when video was taken, all plugins were disabled except for Custom Post Type UI and Advanced Post Type Order.

In the video, I create a brand new custom post type of 'fruits' with apple, orange and watermelon as my 3 fruits. I set manual re-order to be alphabetical.

Notice that Docker is continuing to force it to 'Element Order' (default which is Date Descending).

I created the apple post item first, then orange post, then watermelon.

Sure hope you have a magic solution, thanks.

Bear with the video around the 45 second mark - I wander off for 20 seconds or so and come back... :-)

Can you provide a link to the plugin you're using as the one in your video is not the same as the one I used. I use this one - https://wordpress.org/plugins/post-types-order/

If you're using the premium version then its likely an issue with that and not DMS. Also, I do not use switch the posts option to pages, like you did in your video.

Here is a quick video showing the plugin I use has no issues re-ordering the posts.

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
My theme is up to date

I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.

My DMS 2 site http://www.heart-stone.com/ will not save any new custom css... I can still edit templates and publish those but any custom css that I enter never saves.
All WP files, themes, and plugins are up to date.
Any thought about what might be causing this?

Is there a way to edit the custom CSS via FTP? I know I can edit the custom code in the Chrome editor but is there a file path I can use to find and edit the CSS directly from our FTP?
Thanks in advance for the help!
